The first post-debate poll just came out with Biden +13. Hard to say whether it's an outlier or not without seeing others but it suggests that people were rightly horrified with whatever that was the other night.

I was going to comment on this but all I have are a series of anecdotes from focus groups conducted after the debate and a rash of Twitter commentary -- it looks like a good-sized portion of that small sliver of undecideds were appalled by Trump's 1) overall behavior, 2) the refusal to condemn white supremacy (which is how they saw it WITHOUT a media filter, Damo) and 3) the attacks on Biden's kid (again, as they saw it). Some wanted Biden to show more "attack dog" to combat Trump's behavior but others lauded Biden for not going over there and strangling him or walking off the stage. Additional anecdotes suggest Trump signs being removed from lawns all over the country on Wednesday morning, but there's no data obviously.

Recall Trump's press conferences aren't prime time, aren't necessarily about topics of interest, and the snippets you see of him in the MSM and otherwise of him speaking are just that -- snippets -- easy to dismiss or ignore. Not the debate. Prime time, with his opponent right there, unvarnished and unedited. And it seems clear from the initial reaction that many folks were greatly disturbed by what they saw.

There's a lot of time left and anything can happen and there are two more debates but my initial visceral reaction from the last 36 hours is that his performance has harmed his chances greatly.

Good to hear. For what it’s worth I don’t think Biden should get down in the mud with Trump. Biden should maintain his cool, and only bite occasionally. Also laugh at Trump, mock him, tease him. That will drive Trump insane (assuming we would notice).

My two cents from over here.

Agree - and the issue for Trump is if its not a verbal fight then it will have to be about substance and Trump has no substance. I don't know where the Trump team goes from here - i can only assume more of the same as they can't prep him to win a debate, he doesnt have the arguments or the inteligence to make them even if there was something he could genuinely offer.

I think the viewing figures will drop for the next round and that suits Biden. Trump has to make up ground but the undecideds are not going to tune in to that and make and pro Trump decision on the back of it - if anything some Trump voters who have been shielded by Fox news will have had a bit of an eye opener.

I mentioned this before the debate as well, generally speaking when people get a lot of unfiltered Trump they don't like what they hear. For all the talk about the liberal media, the media sanitizes him more than anyone I can recall. Any time he gets up there just to speak off the cuff when a lot of people are watching, be it the debates in 2016 or his disastrous Coronavirus press conferences, his numbers go down afterwards.
