It was a poor performance only dug out by a bit of individual brilliance and summed up by throwing it away at the end.

Aussies will muller Samoa as they would have done us anyway.

Wane looks like he's going to burst into tears. Understandable, so so frustrating.

I am, never mind him! I’ve just watched the full game back after getting back from City. What’s a shit day.

I was confident[/deluded] we’d do something special in this World Cup. I thought we had the right balance of quality, pace and size. But the same old England problem of making daft mistakes did for us.

Welsby won’t sleep tonight, he had a shocker in extra time.

Still some big positives. Elliot Whitehead, Herbie Farnowrth, Tom Burgess and George Williams were excellent.

I hope Wane stays on! I want to see him work with this team going into the France World Cup in three years and would love a Great Britain tour of Australia.

I’m off to the final next week, I think I will experience the quality of the Aussies better with it not being England, hoping we beat them. I reckon they’re as good as they’ve ever been, this could possibly be their greatest ever side.

I wasn’t mad about their front row going into the tournament but they stood up to that Kiwi attack last night brilliantly. Liam Martin was immense! And I think I just underestimated the likes of Carrigan. They do not make mistakes. They don’t miss tackles, they don’t knock it on, they’re like robots, it’s unbelievable.

I thought it was noticeable that many of the best players today are the NRL gang, with parent rules being exploited. It seems strange that England need to do that and can't put a team together without them.

It was so staccato compared with yesterday's match.

Wane is one of the least inspiring coaches I've ever seen interviewed!

For England?

The only player in the England squad who was born or even grew up in Australia was Victor Radley who’s Father is from Sheffield.

All the other players were all born and grew up in England. Whitehead didn’t go over there until his mid-20s and Young, Farnworth and Burgess all went over at 18 when they were all drafted straight from English club academies.

It is good to have a new face in the final. The rate things are going England will never win the World Cup.

Ta, I've not heard of Farnworth and Young before - strange that they can prosper there but not here.

Some previous reporting had suggested more than just the one.
