England made the final of the wheelchair event, scoring over 100 points in the semi vs Wales. One guy scored eight tries and managed not to smile once.

It should be a good final v France. I'm not sure if any other team sports allow men and women in the same team, like in the super league here.

The RFL have been so poor when it’s come to getting these stadiums full for this tournament.

The ticket prices have been ridiculous!

For the Tonga v Samoa game along the side of the pitch in the seats, it would have cost me about the same as I paid in my similar seat for all three Champions League Group Stage games put together at City this season.
(Tonga v Samoa ticket - £70, combined prices for all three City CL games - £74)

Even so, me and my Father still tried to get tickets there but couldn’t purchase two together on the ticket website… we went in the standing terrace on the other side of the pitch instead but when the game was being played we noticed how many lots of two-seats together there were dotted all over the seated areas. Why the hell could I purchase any on the RFL WC website?

Bloody rubbish!

There’s also been absolutely no advertisement for the games. The RFL have even had an extra year to get tickets shifted yet I’ve not seen any advertising anywhere. When the RUWC was on here in about 2015 there were adverts on tele for two years advertising tickets for the games, there were adverts on social media, adverts on street posters and ad boards.

None of my non-RL supporting mates knew there was a World Cup on last year, that it was postponed or that it was rescheduled to this year or even when England games have been on while the tournament has been on.

Oh and my ticket for the final says ‘Doors open: 11:30, Kick off: 13:15’… when it actually kicks off at 16:00.

Proper amateur stuff!

I disagree about the Aussies. I think the NRL has upped its quality again over the last five years, the players coming through now are of such high quality in higher numbers and across more teams than I’ve seen before. I think this is the highest quality and depth this sport has ever had. Most NRL teams have a couple of players as good and better as Ellery Hanley ever was, the athleticism and skill of what are deemed as average players in that league at lower clubs are incredible, forwards are more skilful than they ever have been but with the size and power to go with it and they rarely make mistakes.

The 1 6 7 9 and 13 of Tedesco Munster Cleary Grant and Yeo are as good as it gets, all-time.

Players like Turbo Tommy can’t even get picked for the Aussie squad.

The RFL have been a shambles for as long as I can remember.

A friend had a similar issue getting tickets for the game at The Emirates. When he first went on to the site, he could not find two tickets together. The stadium was half full at best!

Re the quality of players, interesting that you picked out those positions. Fair play, they are the key. To justify my view on the standard of players, I think the current crop are better at FB, with Tedesco and Turbo are better than players like Jack, Minichello et al.. Although I would suggest Slater and Lockyer are just ahead of them. Especially the latter with his ball playing skills and decision making. Re Turbo, I thought he missed out because he was injured.

The props are now unquestionably better. However, at half-back they are weaker, in my opinion. I don't think Clearly and Munster are at the same level as Andrew Johns, Langer, Lockyer, Thurston, Stuart and Wally Lewis. To be fair, Cleary is still young so he can improve further and he has a better shout at being an all-time great. I just don't see it with Munster and he is now 28/29.

I do think the quality of depth in Australia is on a different level now than it has ever been. ARL/NRL teams would generally have two or three players who were not good. I know as I have watched them in SL, especially at Salford! Now, there are players being brought in from feeder teams like Newtown, Ipswich, Engadine Dragons etc., for a couple of games who are high quality and would be more than good enough to walk into an SL team. Incredible depth.

I might try to make the final. I assume it’s not sold out, or if it is I will pick a ticket up outside .
I agree about the bad organisation of this tournament. I’ve struggled to buy tickets online and only went to the Ireland Vs NZ game as a mate had a spare.

I would have loved England to make the final and win this but we were defeated despite a bit of gamesmanship / corruption. Batsman’s availability despite hitting Sezer out of the grand final and the Morgan Knowles shambles should be an embarrassment to the peole running our game. Maybe exclude domestic bans from the World Cup but the pretence they would have been selected for the England Knights ffs:

I’ve just been looking through the Aussie RL Hall of Fame. It’s too soon for some of stellar players of the last 15 years to be in there.

One thing I’ve noticed is that during some of Australia’s greatest periods (80s 90s, early noughties) they played a more structured game that gave the backs less opportunity to shine. I remember watching a video of Peter Sterling in Australia’s domestic rugby and he was incredible. Fantastic players had to play within themselves at times for the National team because of the attritional style of the day.

I’d struggle to say what is the best era. Munster and Tedesco are great winners but I’m not sure they rank towards the top of the all time greats. Nathan Cleary is unbeliever to watch in the NRL.

I think Billy Slater is the best player I’ve ever watched and Cameron Smith is the man you would always want in your side.

Just watched the Women’s Team bested by New Zealand in the RL semi final. The Kiwi Ferns had too much power but England got nose bleeds on the last play of several sets.

Gutted. My mates daughter plays for England and is in the squad. She didn't play tonight but such a shame that they've gone out. Not really a rugby league fan myself but got quite into it watching her develop as a player over the last few years.

That’s a great achievement for her being in the England squad. I think England will be gutted that they couldn’t give their best against a very strong New Zealand team. The better team won, although the ref was a tad lenient with a few Kiwi high shots that could have given England better field position.

I’m not sure criticism of the ticket prices is entirely fair.

I took one of my boys to the opening game against Samoa in Newcastle and paid £30 for the two of us. That was in the corner of the Gallowgate with a pretty good view.

Then took wife and all four kids to Scotland - Fiji in Newcastle- total, £40 for the six of us in the main stand

Taking my boy to the final(s) on Saturday and I’m paying £40 in total, in the cheap seats admittedly but still paying that for a World Cup final is brilliant.
