2022 World Cup Discussion

The political spin attempts on the ban are hilarious:-
"Following discussions between host country authorities and Fifa, a decision has been made to focus the sale of alcoholic beverages on the Fifa fan festival"

"Host country authorities and Fifa will continue to ensure that the stadiums and surrounding areas provide an enjoyable, respectful and pleasant experience for all fans."

"There is no impact to the sale of Bud Zero which will remain available at all Qatar's World Cup stadiums."

"The tournament organisers appreciate AB InBev's understanding and continuous support to our joint commitment to cater for everyone during the Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022."

Budweiser's now deleted tweet summed up the situation perfectly:-
"Well, this is awkward"

But, beer(with alcohol content) will still be available at games for those sat in corporate WTF !?

How is that a surprise?
I’m surprised it’s not completely sold out, I would have considered going if Scotland qualified. From a purely footballing perspective it is one of the best World Cup for someone who loves watching football, with the stadiums so close and if money wasn’t a problem you could go to 4 matches a day in different stadiums.
The stadiums are not close. They will fly all fans in on every matchday because they barely have the hotels and infrastructure to home the FIFA ans sponosring crowd. Most teams are spread all over Arabia peninsula as are fans. The traffic jams at the airports will be huge. You doin't want to stay in town before and after the matches either. So you're hours of boring travelling and queing up for hours to see a match. It will be a real mess.

The old "from a purely footballing perspective". The Berlin Olympics and Sochi winter Olympics were fab from a "purely sporting perspective".

Dunno why people are moaning about no beer in stadiums given we couldn't get any in chumps league games for years.
It's the timing of the ban I think.
As well as the fact that UEFA wrote to football associations telling them to now focus on the football whilst now bowing down to Qatar's non-related football concerns.

Many people used to judge how expensive a game was based on the Pie, Pint, and Programme method. Well, your second P in the PPP just got eradicated. Savings all round. Good on Qatar and Thief-FA for helping the match-going folk out. Is coffee available?
