2022 World Cup Discussion

The shock results
The twists and turns
The passion (Japan/Argentina/Morocco)
The handbags (argies and the Dutch last night)
The stars - Messi, Modric, Mbappe, Ronaldo
Referees allowing so much more go, VAR working exceptionally well (so far)
England looking great (so far)
Fair enough, as said football apart it's been a superbly organized event, Qatar should be proud of what they have done.

Sadly for me the football on the pitch is a sad reflection of the way the once pinnacle of the game has declined.

And another thing. It's a time for hypocrites. We look at the England team and we are supposed to be gushing with pride and are meant to be supportive of Southgate's selections which might mean leaving Foden and Grealish on the bench in favour of honest runners like Henderson and Sterling. In a league game these players would be jeered by us just as our players would be jeered by supporters elsewhere but in the WC we are meant to put it all aside and believe the team out there is the best there is. I am sorry to say it but I just can't go along with all the sycophants.
Not very apt username..

I never celebrate a rag who scores for England, rashfords goals were met with non plussed silence.

henderson and sterling I have no issue with as not rags so wouldn't be jeering them normally.

can I be taken off the hypocrite list?

Agree, the standard of football has been poor.

The only conclusion from last night is that jonathan pearce should never volunteer at the samaritans

Imagine actually getting paid good money to come out with lines like…. I’ve absolutely no idea who he’s booking or why but it’s ridiculous.

feel its gonna be just as dreadful listening to matterfav
ce and dixon later

ITV use their brains and have champion or crimson and McCoist do england v france

Pearce after a penalty went in the corner "straight down the middle". And Keown after every cynical challenge "it's just a coming together"

I’m not even sure Pearce was watching half the time, constantly getting names wrong (mostly Otamendi..) and then that comment in the shoot out.

Strange how the so called best referee in world football when he's sending off Pep and shafting us suddenly turned shit last night.... who'd have thought it?
That prick is incompetent and is a disgrace to the sport. Fucking despise the sight of him and how he manages the game. He thinks he's Collina when it actual fact he's a grandstanding prick.

Argentina's potential route to final: Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Poland, Australia, Netherlands, Croatia.

Even with that run of fixtures, had they not had Messi they arguably would not have got out of their group.

Croatia on the other hand despite their resilience, have only won one game all tournament and that was against Canada.

Cannot see the winner coming from that side of the draw. It would cement this World Cup as an exciting and enthralling watch, but ultimately devoid of real great team quality.

Even if France won it back to back I still believe this World Cup to be quite lacking in great quality.

The France side from 98 to 06 would dominate this French team. How many from this current crop get in those teams from that era?
It's lacked quality but made up for it with passion, twists and turns, and unexpected outcomes like last minute goals - in a footballing sense its basically the Gillingham 99 of tournaments

This has been one of the best World Cups ever
Can’t agree at all, there’s been some terrible games including Brazil v Croatia yesterday. Plus, I’ve not seen so many plastic fans since I last went to Candlefield, Sky interviewed a family of about three generations who were out there for an England game, fuck all knowledge about the sport but they were going to the game. It’s been ok (on a par with USA and South Africa ) but nowhere near other tournaments in the traditional football heartlands. Boring as fuck atmosphere wise.

Exactly- but you know how superclapper BH has to cheer everything shiny and new from the rafters.

Loved every minute of that Brazil/Croatia match, Don't need Goals to appreciate the tactics, work rate, togetherness Croatia showed in nullifying those Brazil superstars - it was a joy to watch.

If you just require Goals for entertainment we've had Portugal 6-1, Brazil/Korea 4-1, England 6-2 and 3-0, Cameroon/Serbia 3-3 was great ,Spain 7-0

So yeh, I'd say this WC has had it all

Carry on moaning though if it pleases you

The pundits & commentators have been pushing for African teams to have success at this tournament but Morocco are all of a sudden Arab?
