2022 World Cup Discussion

Qatar update, just on bus going back to colditz sorry I mean camp it's ace really. Didn't make it home last night ended up on floor in two notlob fans room (father son belting lads). Been on sauce meals with em today they just going airport. home. Tough to take but what I've and we've all had all our lives.Made us what we are and character building differentiates us from all the others. Got my Guardola teee shirt and City shorts on. Love it.

I think this is true for a couple of reasons.

There is less time to prepare an international team and a lot more work needs to go into developing attacking play than organising a defensive structure.

The other thing which I think has happened is that FIFA have run scared of losing players due to sendings off and repeat bookings.
There appears to me to be a lot of niggly fouls that stifle attacks that go sometimes ignored and very rarely booked which has hampered sides trying to attack.
I've not been impressed with the referees.

Quite right. I was shocked by England the other day, we pressed the French and attacked them which played into their hands to a degree. I thought we would be far more cagey and look to sit back and make them dictate play. If you have a solid defensive structure you can get away with just sitting back and trying to get a goal on the break knowing you'll be able to repeatedly foul the opposition without being in danger of a red card. The Moroccan lad got sent off for two quick bookings the other day against Portugal, but otherwise the refs are allowing players to kick each other and delay the game. There's also been a failure to stamp out the play acting and diving which teams resort to in order to keep their teams in the tournament.

Maybe the next World Cup will open up a bit with there being another 16 of the world's greatest sides added to it. The group stage will be a joke and then it will maybe open up a bit beyond that. But Canada, who were attack-minded failed and Morocco who are defence-minded have succeeded. The quality of football is dire and it's all very very boring. The France England game was a proper World Cup match and it's good that one of those teams are still in it. Hopefully the positive football wins through eventually.

Anyone think this World Cup has been rigged for a Messi & Mbappe final with the PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaïfi? (Who somehow is on the Fifa the committee board) The decisions in the Argentina game against Holland & our game against France do make me feel twice. Messi on a yellow card & makes deliberate hand ball not sent off & many other controversial decisions. We all know how shit the ref was against France

I’d imagine it would be the first time a rigged game involved giving the designated losers two penalties.

Also Messi wasn’t on a yellow card when the hand ball incident occurred. The yellow card came later.

Except VAR is bought in to rig games so why would they give us that penalty

And you only get yellow for deliberate handball that stops a promising attack, no?

No just bad refs in both those games

I've seen it mentioned a few times how shit the ref was for our game.
I don't know if my memory is playing tricks on me but I can only remember the foul not given on Saka as being a bad call.
Not saying he wasn't shit but I don't remember any other stand out moments.

Lots of fouls on the edge of area not given especially with Griezmann took a while for him to even be booked. Harry Kane not given a blatant penalty as well before we got the first pen

Messi not getting a second yellow card in the Argentina game was beyond bad refereeing

Think officials have been told to not red card players this tournament, they've let so many fouls which should be a yellow off the hook - I can understand why, sending players off can spoil the game and matches have been more free flowing but still prefer Refs to book by letter of the law

I actually missed the incident, even though I watched the game and haven’t seen a replay. But I’m happy to accept it probably should have been a yellow, as I’ve not heard anybody dispute it.
