And here we have a classic example of a straw man argument.
What is your feeling about the two horses who died at Aintree today?
But it's not a straw man argument is it, it's a reality.
I can't say that horse racing is perfect (I'm only considering UK racing here), but great efforts have been made to make it safer.
Perhaps you should ask Corach Rambler if he enjoys being alive, because without racing he wouldn't have been able to enjoy any life at all.
It's very difficult to make a horse that doesn't want to race, race and there are many instances of horses that really don't like retirement, so the argument that horses are forced to race against their will is very weak.
If racing was banned, then what do you suggest happens to the thousands of horses in training?
These horses are athletes and are treated as such. Grealish, Foden, Haaland and Co get the absolute best in training, nutrition and medical care and race horses get the very same.
I assume that you have never been to a racing stable, so I would suggest you make an effort to do so and then I'd be more inclined to take notice of your opinion. These horses really do get the very best of attention.
Many spout on about how the horse is just a commodity for greedy owners, but owners can look at at recouping 20% of their investment. It's enjoyment and dreams that motivates them and the opportunity of being the owner of a good horse or winning a big race.
If you want to look at animal cruelty, then you should focus your attentions elsewhere, because there are far, far more serious issues than horses racing.
My opinion of the horses that died.
It's always disappointing, as it is with any race or news of a horse dying off track in training, in the paddock or competing in any other discipline. It's also disappointing when I hear of a rider being killed in a TT race, boxing, motor racing or when reading the obituaries in the local newspaper. If you can't accept death, then you're in for a rude awakening.
What would your choice be if you were offered the option to be born and live ten years or not be born at all?
