2024 Grand National 13th April

Racing yes , jumping no ,those fences are suicidal for them and they have no choice or get whipped
More horses get injured or worse whilst running and playing with there mates in a field . Let’s not go overboard with “suicidal “ and bollocks like that eh !

Just a little fact for the ignorant…….
Vast majority of race horses live to a grand old age once they retire from racing because they are fit and healthy and immaculatey looked after . It’s not uncommon for an ex race horse to live to late 20s years of age or more . The dedication and love and care they receive from mostly women stable staff is something to be seen to behold . I have been lucky enough to own half a dozen horses through a racing syndicate over a decade , I can only frown with dismay with some of the anti comments on here .

He is a lot higher in the weights this year and is he as good a horse as last year ?
I know mate . Very difficult to come back and win it again and with the extra weight aswell but it’s looks like the horse is peaking so we will see

I’m not a great fan of the national hunt but I always get a bit emotional on the morning of the national as growing up mum and dad where big into racing and you get much bigger than the national . I can always remember my first bet in the race and it was Spartan missile ridden by John Thorne and it got beat by Aldaniti and bob champion .

and it they're any good they get to spend their days in retirement shagging all the best looking fillies or getting an hand job off the women stable staff ;-)

Deffo ! Everyone wants a winner ! ;-)

Why not just remove the whip from the jockey entirely? It shouldn't be used at all. If the horse is tiring, the horse is tiring.

It's also not a good look to call everyone who questions something you like as being "ignorant", because it makes you look overly defensive and incapable of debating criticisms of the thing you're interested in. You're making wild assumptions about a person you don't know simply because they disagree with you. That's... ignorance.
I’m an avid horse racing fan and go racing to courses all over the country on a fairly regular basis. I agree entirely that the whips should be banned. They are effectively only pieces of padded foam nowadays anyway. It would be a major step forward for horse racing imo.

Corach rambler had a good prep in the gold cup and will go really close again.

Think it will be tough for him. Gold Cup was a hard race and will have taken a lot out of him, with the ground looking on the heavy side on Saturday I can't back him at 5/1 and at almost top weight.

Limerick Lace and Delta Work both worth looking at e/w at the prices.

Horses have been trained for many functions, for example as transport for Soldiers and equipment, are you calling people cunts for training them to do that as they too would have been “broken in”. It’s not barbaric as you’re making out and tell me why horses who lose their jockeys keep on running and jumping fences.

Pathetic comment, horses provide pleasure to many people including the disabled and as for the racing industry it contributes significantly to the economy. Most horse owners in whichever field love and pamper their animals, the commitment to horse welfare is fantastic.
If you reread what I said, I called the people who exploit these animals for money, in the guise of "sport", cunts. Somebody training a horse for vital tasks such as transportation and wartime needs is a little different to flogging a horse to win races, races populated by pissed up gamblers. It's all about context, really.

Heavy ground at top weight could be the killer tbh .as for the others I’ve not really looked atm .

Bollocks, the Grand National has had a lot of jeopardy taken out of it now but Racing is an industry where horses die all over the world every year. However, mostly, they well cared for, live in luxury, well trained, well fed and cared for after retirement.

You’re just ignorant of the facts, saying “horse killing season is with us again” typical no knowledge comment, Horse Racing is an industry that provides employment and adds a lot to the UK economy, without it the horses wouldn’t be bred in the first place, give your head a wobble.

Well I've heard some shite in my life but that is quality. But horses all over ths world, what a tremendous argument against animal cruelty. The economy? Haha fucking hell well that's okay then you daft donk.

99% of race horses have probably lived a better and more luxurious life than you . What an absolute weapon !

Yes one cannot imagine the luxury of horse feed a vertically challenged human on your back and being whipped. Do they retire to the Costa del Sol with Winstone?

That is living the dream I agree

What a crock of shit. So if racing didn't exist, horses would go extinct? Horses are inherently wild animals, they are "broken" into money makers by the cunts that run the sport, thus there is nothing natural about making a horse race. Go and educate yourself.

If there is money to be made or a brief high to be gotten out of winning a race then who gives a fuck about an animal. That's the truth but unfortunately people can't admit their shortcomings so a bunch of illogical and laughable excuses get attempted.

You’re ignorant on horse welfare, you were saying it’s horse killing season. I was pointing out it’s a sport and like any sport there’s casualties all year round including human ones, a jockey died in an accident this past week in Australia. It’s a small risk sport.

It’s not cruelty, these horses generally have some of the best animal welfare in the world. Do you say animal killing season is upon us every day from slaughter houses and farms etc who breed animals for the sole intention of providing humans with food?
You maybe a veggie but if you’re not you would be a proper hypocrite.

Horse Racing is not a cruel sport, a lot of horses are completely happy in their racing environment, if they weren’t they’re big enough to cause a fuss. Visit a racing stable and observe the relationship between a horses groom, trainer, jockey, head lad, owner, etc, it’s brilliant to see. Also when a horse does get killed (and it’s not a common occurrence) the heartbreak is palpable, it’s not something that’s just brushed aside.

Just as in all walks off life there’s an element of danger in everything we do, would you really take away the pleasure and employment of people just to remove the small jeopardy of a horse losing its life? Where would you stop? No boxing because it’s dangerous, no football because players sometimes die from a heart attack on the field, no cricket because someone like Phil Hughes died after being hit by a ball, no mountain climbing, base jumping or parachuting because they’re deemed dangerous sports? And before you say it I know it’s not the horses choice to race but they do generally enjoy it, there’s many a race where a horse will lose its jockey and continue to race even jumping the obstacles, put them in a paddock without racing, they run quite a lot clearly enjoying the environment.

I’ve been to quite a few Racing Stables including Franny Lee’s when he trained at Little Stanneylands, they all look after their horses brilliantly, educate yourself.

Whips are very soft now and they’re restricted on how many times they can be used in a race, again you’re commenting on something you know absolutely fuck all about.

1 I'm aware it's a sport pmsl

2 The jockey has a choice

If you can't even understand that basic difference, one even a child could grasp, then I'm sorry it really wasn't worth reading the rest so I didn't. I suggest you move on.
