20MPH Speed Limit - Wales

Been speaking to a Welsh mate about how he's finding the change now into week 2.
Most ticking along at 25 mph in the 20mph areas but strangely the biggest change has been in the higher limits, he said drivers are almost smack on the 30/40/50/60 limits in those zones.
It's almost like setting off a bit earlier and don't bother rushing.

That's probably down to the fact that the Go Safe cameras could well be out in force and those fuckers will have you. At least there's a years amnesty for going over 20 mph in a 20 zone but not over 30....plus you'll be able to have a nice chat with a friendly police officer, who's got nothing better to do than tell a seasoned motorist the whys and wherefores of doing 20 mph in a 20 mph zone.

Plenty of “seasoned motorists” out there who don’t know how to fuckin drive.

You only needed to look at any merge lane on any dual carriageway or motorway in the country to see that people don’t know basic road sense and the Highway Code. Hundreds of them leaving the merge lanes empty then get all aggro and think you’re “pushing in” when you use the merge lane correctly.

Nothing to do with the Wales 20 limit but I just needed a rant about these thick twats.

Yes, noticed that.....default speed now if not sure or confidant enough, flappers...... fucking annoying.
I came back from dropping daughter off at Bangor on the first Sunday and it looked like they hadnt sorted out all the signs properly. For example, at one stage coming out from a 20MPH there was a 30MPH sign but then 100yds later was back down to 20 with no change in road conditions. Dont understand why it isnt just residential areas like we have.

We have similar with a 40 mph sign 20yds from a roundabout in a residential area. The thing is, it's always been there for some strange reason.

My experience of this so far (my fokes live in North Wales and I'm there all the time).

I thought it would be a disaster but it definitely is not. Their are pros and cons. The big pro is that the local village is now a much nicer place to be. Its so much more appealing to walk around when cars aren't doing 40+ down the main Rd. Most are doing 20~30 now. I think the smaller shops in villages will benefit and most of the north Wales population rely on small village shops.

The 20 zones are not everywhere, my village has no shops and it's now signposted as a 30mph main Rd. Most main roads are now signposted 30 unless there is a reason and they haven't got this right everywhere. A good example is the turning I take on to the a55. It's a 40 road that runs up to it but then drops to 20 for about 30 meters and then your on the slip Rd which is a 70 limit. There are many little quirks like that that will piss people off.

But all in I think it's fine and it's not the big disaster the tories want it to be. It will be even less so if they sort out the issues with signs and where some stretches make no sense.

Ive noticed this. It has clearly made drivers more speed limit conscious across all different roads

.... If only. Main arterial routes (A roads) through towns and cities are mostly 20mph.

Just try driving at 20mph in a 30mph zone. You will be surprised how difficult it is when you're on an empty, wide road to drive at 20mph... and then when there are hills, another major headache.

I urge you all to try it just so you can experience the difficulty.

Not on housing estates or outside schools or hospitals or town centres which you will find the majority of people will agree with, but on a main arterial routes. Just try it.
Thankfully I quickly realised that my cruise control works from 20mph in second… that’s me, set to 22mph and let anybody behind me worry

The biggest bonus is the road we live off (was 30mph) was often mistakenly taken as a stretch of National speed limit but it has lampposts and no speed signs along it’s length.. it’s now a much quieter road than it ever was… You get the occasional dick speeding but the majority are crawling along it
