Not in his first season though. Nowhere near.
I’m not having a dig at Torres, I hope he turns out to be an amazing acquisition. I just feel feel that although he’s bagged a few goals he’s been largely anonymous whenever he’s played.

Plenty of time for him to change that.

Raz is a perfect example of someone who offers very little to our overall play but always pops up with a goal/assist.

All the pace in the world but far too happy to slow the tempo down and pass the ball back where it came from.

There’s nothing wrong with that, it’s helping the team finish chances and he’s in the right place at the right time, but you’ll never see him take the game by the scruff of the neck and set the tempo like a foden or DeBruyne

He`s 20 in his first season in a foreign land and league be patient. He looks like he`s a good finisher so cool in front of goals.

People have to remember that Torres has been playing as a striker for a lot of the games he's played and not as a winger. For for large parts he's in the middle waiting for service and not getting involved in the build up like a winger or midfielder would. Even against Cheltenham he was more central with Mendy being the winger on the left. Only in the 2nd half he moved to the right wing.
Agree he’s playing in an unfamiliar role and credit to him he’s been popping in a few goals.

My point was that for any player, goals and assists alone aren’t the only way to judge their performance.

Full backs for example are judged on assists nowadays. Cancelo hasn’t been making assists every game but I’ve really enjoyed watching him execute peps tactics and being brave enough to carry the ball rather than just being a cross merchant looking for assists (like Alex-Arnold at the cesspit).

He won’t get the plaudits but I know he is performing at a very high level.

I’m not expecting him to perform at the levels of DeBruyne but there is no denying he does go very quiet for long spells of games.

He deserves time to settle, correct.

Another poster has alluded to the fact that acknowledging someone’s limited contribution doesn’t mean you are digging them out.

He’s had a good start, I’d just like to see him offer more to our overall game the longer he is here

at the end of the day a guy who does little but does score goals and assists will always be looked on better than someone like FFS who does sod all and has no end product. Same way Raz gets a lot more criticism for misses when he's not mitigating poorer performances with 20 goals and 5/10 assists a season.

There is definitely a division of people who think a good performance is the most important thing and others which think end product is.

On the Jesus thread people are having the same argument about him needing to score more, while others say he is playing well and contributing to the team winning games and that's enough.

hes got something that tells me he will be cf for us, i agree with the poster above he goes missing for huge parts of the game , but when he gets into the positions his finishes are sergo like, defo something about him, i dont think he will play on the wings alot in the future

I think given a run in the team he will do. An away game at Cheltenham is about as far away from his comfort zone as he can get for a return to the side and only Foden really made a call for the ball in that game!

He's also had to play a number of different positions to help the team and has done a pretty good job. His goal record is excellent. So young too, only a couple of months older than Foden. So moving abroad and in the current circumstances you have to give him credit. Must be tough to deal with off the field, trying to settle in. Plus the injuries/covid. Pep said he's a really shy guy and he comes across that way. Just needs a run in the side, and a realisation that he's good enough and important enough to demand the ball more and he'll be a great player for us.

I agree. he has that strikers knack of being in the right place at the right time. Has a great instinct for goal.
