He's been one of our most consistent players this season. His only weakness? Clearing the ball out of the penalty box.

One of our finest defenders. Sorry, but not in the same league as Johnny in the midfield role. He did creditably, but often looked uncomfortable to me.
The sooner we get a fit John and Kev back, the sooner we move into fourth gear. I'm not at all sure that we've been in that in any match so far.

He's done a great job stepping into the middle. He doesn't have the awareness of space or calmness on the ball that John has, but he's still very good. It's nothing on Akanji, because it's not his natural role, but we win the game with Stones playing that role just because of how fucking brilliant Sir John is at performing it.

He is now improving in midfield he isn't as elegant as Stones but he did the job well Saturday and the more he plays there the more he will improve in that position
That's a fairish point, actually. Johnny himself didn't look totally comfortable, initially. I still don't think Manu Akanji has Stones's elegance on the ball, and his awareness of space. We'll see.
What couldn't be clearer is that Kalvin Phillips has no future at City. If we've got a taker for him, at a decent price, then it's best for him, and best for us, to go for it.

What I esp. like is his crisp passing. Watch it, it's superb. Instead of slowly rolling the ball to the next player he opens up space by picking up speed and giving his team mate more time for another look.

Great attitude, awareness and intelligent play. And as much as I love to watch Stones - Akanji is fit most of the time. And this must be a key issue scouting top players nowadays with so many matches per year.

Probably the player who's made me eat my words the most since Rodri. I thought he started off quite well, even if the Kompany comparisons were a bit premature, but then he was mostly rubbish for a while either side of the World Cup. Just seemed incapable of putting a fucking tackle in.

But something snapped in him during that Bayern Munich home leg, the 3-0 win. He got absolutely rinsed by Sané in the first half and I remember saying to my dad "Here we go again with Akanji, please just not tonight". And then he was fucking imperious for the rest of the night and the rest of the season.

Now he can play in all four positions across the defence and in defensive midfield and Pep genuinely seems like he wouldn't know what to do without him. He's still not in my strongest City XI but while Stones is never far away from an injury it's great to know that Akanji can slot in basically at any time.

It was his excellent pass to Silva that cut open Inter and lead to Rodri's match winning goal
