Missed him on Saturday, what a turn around for him. He has been immense for several months, long may it continue

I hope fasting during Ramadan will not impact his performance and fitness especially that it coincides with probably the most hectic period of the season.

Is there any precedent for Ramadan negatively impacting players who abide by it?
I remember a couple of years ago he was totally knackered in the FA cup final if I am not mistaken. Despite his brilliant involvement he got substituted at half time and looked drained, but the match took place in the day time when he was fasting.

Ramadan is very similar to numerous intermittent fasting diets. With any restrictive diet plan - if you haven’t got enough calories in you at any one time when they’re needed, you will not perform to your optimal.

Energy comes from oxygen inspired reacting with the food we’ve ingested.

All athletes have optimal times before performance when they should eat for fuelling the performance, and optimal times after performance for refuelling, repair and recovery. Ramadan isn’t good for either. You can’t even drink water during daylight if you’re following it properly, if you’re not hydrated properly, that’s not good at all.

Here’s a study done on poorer sprinting performance during Ramadan

Here’s one on endurance

Both find Ramadan’s intermittent fasting diet plan has “significant” effects on performance.
