His issues are concentration, decision-making, and overplaying instead of doing the simple thing. That affects him at both ends of the pitch

He was pretty shite all night and the last 10 minutes of normal time were a shocker. Crosses the ball in the 88th minute when we could have just kept the ball, then ball watches the ball go over his head to Benzema without even trying to close him down.

I don’t think he’s a bad defender, he just has a propensity to lose concentration and takes too many risks. We need another full-back in the summer.

He has 10 good games a season. Been average since Christmas. Probably overplayed.

seems to be better on the left for some reason but pep needs to drill these fuckers harder on those offside lines

I like him. He is a fantastic footballer and I certainly don’t buy into the idea that we would be better off without him. He is not a bad defender, but he does remind me of a dog with a balloon. He makes decisions without considering the bigger picture. Most weeks he/we get away with it because we are nearly always much better than the opposition. Against the very best opposition mistakes are far more likely to be punished.

What I will say is let’s not kid ourselves that this is limited to Cancelo. I watched the scousers the night before and both of their “best in the world” fullbacks were culpable for goals they conceded.

Amazing that he decided to cross to nobody instead of keeping possession near the 90th minute setting them off on a counter. He’s brilliant going forward and in tight areas and think he’s a better defender than he’s given credit for but still has too many lapses in concentration.

A yard behind the rest of the defence on that first goal! Ffs
