I’m not sure he can be. He strikes me as a player with very little going on between his earsI’m not either really. He’s our best current option by a mile.
As others have said, he needs to be coached when to commit and when to drop off. He’s been done twice now like that.
If he learns not to do it again, we have a very decent right back option.

Thought he played well except for the two times he got exposed. His link up play is good and movement in the attacking areas is great. There were several times where Bernie held on to the ball too long instead of releasing Nunes, which could have resulted in chances for us, due to his movement.
His defensive qualities are obviously going to need to improve, but he has been asked to do a job and I think he is doing it pretty well. Well played lad, shows you have the commitment to try and make it here

was he a right back or right side centre half in the first 45 minutes. with stones playing midfield it changed at half time back to back four
again last night goal was caused by everyone apart from eddie being in there half of pitch trying to create overload block shot by gundogan and they were gone

He needs to learn to stop commiting himself to a tackle that he's never going to win, Numerous times he's got completely done and fortunately nothing came from alot of them...The foul on Amad Diallo, Diving in on Barcola and last night against Brugge are the notable mistakes and we've been punished by all of them.
It's basic defending in which he's getting done, Before anyone says "he's not a right back" yes I understand that but he got done on the half way line against Barcola by running at full tilt, Last night was 20 yards outside our box so it's something that even a natural midfielder shouldn't be getting done by.
On the flip side he also needs to be cut some slack because he's been asked to play in a position that he's never played before. Let's hope he improves as the games go on.

You've got to have some sympathy for him. Yes, he's making errors. But he's being asked to play in a position that's not natural to him. Crazy that we've only apparently got him and Lewis as RB options.

First half I thought he was the only one who could run at them with a bit of pace, as he was coming from deep while most of the rest of the team were camped on the edge of the Brugges box playing low tempo football.
The goal for Brugges showed that he isn't a defender.

Think he's done alright this season but just don't think he's good enough. If he's still here next season it has to be in a very reduced capacity - a squad role at best. He's not a bad player, and he's clearly got talent in there somewhere, I just think he's mentally weak and often makes bad decisions in 50/50 moments. If the pressure's on, he buckles a bit. He's also startlingly indecisive with the ball in the final third - the amount of times last night he arrived in good positions, only to offload the ball or hesitate to cross and turn back... We can't really be having that. Getting to the age now where he should be at his peak but he's nowhere near, sadly. If we can convince Sporting Lisbon to buy him back for £30m I'd consider that a win.

Some sympathy with him but he’s been responsible for conceding against Utd , PSG , Bruges and throwing the ball directly to a Chelsea player at weekend which led to a goal . It’s the basics he struggles with .

Watch the first 5 mins of the game back last night. Did exactly the same. He wasn’t totally at fault for their goal. Akanji and Gvardial in particular were very slow to get back and the latter seemed to have no awareness of what was going on around him. Kovacic was also slow to get back.
Saying that, his challenge was pathetic.

He’s not costing us any more goals than Kyle and Rico have been, and he’s giving us a lot more when we have the ball than either of them

For those defending his errors, aren't they all mistakes that a professional footballer should be able to avoid, regardless of natural position?
He consistently dives in which is one of the first things you get told not to do. If he just stood them up, showed them wide, did the basics, he'd have avoided the mistakes.
Very strange that he can't compute that as he is lucky to be blessed with pace. So he doesn't even need to dive in in the first place!

11 goal involvements this season. Bar the odd error, he has been one of our better players, this year.
It's often the case, but I see no real mention of John Stones, who played a fantastic game last night, missing a completely free header, nor Kev missing a clear chance, nor Phil blasting over when hitting the target seemed easier. The scapegoating is very unnecessary - Nunes is a valuable member of the squad.

Thinking that the issue is Pep's idea of a right or left back is alien to all players.
For years it was all we need is a left back mainly down to Walker having the understanding of Pep's requirements.
Josko gets plenty of abuse when he is caught out but is getting to work the system now, no matter who is playing right back must be giving time to understand what is expected of them.
This lad is like a pendulum at the moment and switches from very good to bad errors that are costly, any other season and the pressure would have been different and allowed him to adapt into the role.
I think (and hope) that it works out for the lad.

I've said it before I've cut him some slack helps us out great in attack but this lad does not like to bastard tackle ( you know what a tackle is mate );-)
Scoring goals is the hardest part of football. Throwing a ball to your team mate isn’t hard nor is not shitting out of a tackle. If you’ve watched City for the last ten years (yes I know we used to be shite, well remember watching us then as well) and you think Nunes is good enough based on the quality of player and level we have now arrived at then I don’t know what to say because he’s not at that level and never will be. He’s in the side, remember he wasn’t last year because we have struggled with injuries and being a bit shite.
