Other than one brain fart, I thought that Nunes offered a lot, especially in the second half. Mistakes are a part of the game, but we tend to single out the odd player's ones and ignore others. I've heard little mention of the missed penalty, nor clear chance ballooned over the bar, but cries of Nunes out and get rid. Objectivity is a strength.

Welcome to Bluemoon

That sums up this season. Too many average / ageing / out of form players and inadequate back-up players.

A sad indictment of Txiki's recruitment team and the academy.
If you ignore consistent injuries to Rodri, Bobb, Stones, Ake, Akanji, Foden, DeBruyne, Doku, Grealish, Dias, and DeBruyne, you'd be right.

We know where the issues are.

Did you actually watch the game? He was a liability and was taken to the cleaners first half. Gave up one shot? He gave them a goal
Yes, yes I did watch the game - without blinkers. He gave up 1 shot to Semenyo, which is what I was clearly referring to. He wasn't taken to the cleaners at all. He was truly dogshit for their goal but was decent otherwise, against a very good player.

Nunes is an average PL player being played out of position. He will never make it at City as the thing he has missing is football intelligence. He gives the ball away too often and, like yesterday, it’s often in critical areas where there are several better options available to him.

He's bang average, some performances are ok, no more than that.

Even second half he was exposed defensively. If you think he’s good enough to play anywhere let alone right back your deluded. Not about blinkers Everyman and his dog saw him get roasted first half by a good player not a fantastic one. He can’t head a ball, can’t tackle, and his decision making is dreadful. Consider what he cost as well, he’s dross

Sadly there is at least one of those brain farts in ever game and often they are inexcusable, it's sad because he has pace and stamina that we so badly lack.

You can literally see other comments in this thread that disagree, so it's not every man in the slightest. Making strawman arguments is pointless as well. You've got an opinion on him and that won't change - fair enough.

No depth in the squad. We're supposed to be the most feared team in Europe... We were last season but now it's like Dad's Army and a few make weights.

Poor recruitment by Pep and Txiki. That's the issue.

Two mistakes in the space of a couple of minutes :

  • First going down as though he had been shot (instead of getting back up and chasing back) when dispossessed just before the goal.
  • Then the awful cross-field pass that lead to the Bournemouth goal.
He seems incapable of completing 90 minutes without a brainfart and is simply just not good enough.

Would he get into Liverpools, Arsenal or even Forests teams……an awful buy although to be fair, he has very rarely played in his favoured midfield position.

If you ignore the injury list, yes.
As always, things are more nuanced than that.
I prefer to celebrate the extraordinary things we have accomplished and think of the psychological and physiological impact of that rather than your (IMO) simplistic take. Without the catastrophic injury list, we would not be thinking of the small squad, nor poor recruitment, IMO. What it does show, however, is that nothing can be taken for granted. The small squad has served us well, and has kept motivation and competition high among elite players, but the game moves on, and that small squad that has delivered so many trophies has, this season, been hit in a way that it has not for the decade of Pep.

Pep can look at himself in the mirror for that question.

I was screaming at him today for the pass for their goal and his antics when he didn't get a foul but otherwise, could have probably walked away with a couple assists and did well generally. He's not a right back but he's the best option we have.

The fact he's probably our best option at right back right now is an indicator of how poor our recruitment has been over the past few seasons.

It's embarrassing how a team as successful as us have got to this position.

Get rid.

50m quid down the drain. We spent all that money on a player that Pep does not trust to play in central midfield, the position we bought him for.

Really poor recruitment.

TBF, you've no idea what position we bought him for, you're assuming.

Unless we announced it at some point when we signed him.
