He's leading the way for minutes played this season all comps with City - 2297 minutes from 26 starts and 1 sub.
He's in an elite group of 4 also including Ederson, Rodri and Sterling who have played 2200 minutes+

Next group are somewhat back all in the 1800s - Cancelo, Foden, Mahrez and Walker.

Dias is a beast though. He has been in continual action for 5 months from the 5th September if we included 8 games for Portugal and 3 games for Benfica. Total minutes for Portugal, Benfica and City - 3152 from 35 starts and 2 subs.

Stay fit please young man :) Only 29 games left if we go the distance in everything...

Hope the next month and 2 days goes well for him because he doesn't deserve being pilloried given the transformation he's already brought.

Why not? The odds are likely going to get shorter if we carry on like this and he gets more credit.

At the moment Cancelo and Gundogan are getting a bit more attention in the press.

Although I'd go for Stones if you want to make some real money. Especially if he plays well for England during the international break. He's not even listed!

Couldn't disagree more. Dias is the shoe in, we need him. Dias-Stones is excellent as we've seen and Dias-Laporte I'm sure would be good too but as soon as we take Dias out I think we'll lose so much leadership and defensive ability that the clean sheet streak will quickly be over.

I’m sure that’s one of the reasons Pep is giving Laporte minutes, even in a less preferred position. Dias will need a break at some point

He should have been rested against Burnley. I was calling for it pre-match as we knew Wood and Barnes were out. Laporte and Stones would have been fine. Also the fact that Burnley are utter shite. He could have been fresh for Liverpool.

No way. Dias is the leader we need. Pep should have rested him against Burnley. He has been playing non stop. I think pep is apprehensive about dropping Dias. As pep said " not only he plays well , he makes others around him play good too".

Dias has pushed Stones to the next level. I don't think it's a coincidence he's played his best when with Dias.

Dias has given him the stable partner he probably needed to hit the heights he has done, but if you put 2019 John Stones next to Ruben Dias he'd not last 3 matches before being replaced by Laporte.

We know Stones has had a lot of things change. He sorted out his personal life, he got told he was in last chance saloon at the club, he hit the gym and bulked up when he was out of the side.


Dias has given him the stable partner he probably needed to hit the heights he has done, but if you put 2019 John Stones next to Ruben Dias he'd not last 3 matches before being replaced by Laporte.

Maybe it's simplistic but Stones was in and out of the squad when we had Kompany and Laporte, 2 World Class CBs. Also, Fernandinho was at the height of his powers. Maybe it's the new approach, maybe he's shook his demons & injuries off, but since we've signed Dias, our defence looks the best it ever has. Don't know if that's a coincidence or not.
