I think that's far too simplistic.

We know Stones has had a lot of things change. He sorted out his personal life, he got told he was in last chance saloon at the club, he hit the gym and bulked up when he was out of the side.

Dias has given him the stable partner he probably needed to hit the heights he has done, but if you put 2019 John Stones next to Ruben Dias he'd not last 3 matches before being replaced by Laporte.

I agree with this but I don't understand how the OP could look at this season so far and say that Stones, not Dias, is the undroppable one. Dias is the leader, Stones the partner. That's not to say they're not both excellent and essential, but I've seen several people now suggest Stones is the better of the two and I just don't see that myself.

He's leading the way for minutes played this season all comps with City - 2297 minutes from 26 starts and 1 sub.
He's in an elite group of 4 also including Ederson, Rodri and Sterling who have played 2200 minutes+

Next group are somewhat back all in the 1800s - Cancelo, Foden, Mahrez and Walker.

Dias is a beast though. He has been in continual action for 5 months from the 5th September if we included 8 games for Portugal and 3 games for Benfica. Total minutes for Portugal, Benfica and City - 3152 from 35 starts and 2 subs.

Stay fit please young man :) Only 29 games left if we go the distance in everything...
This is a bit worrying. He needs to be rested. I don't want to see him near any cup games unless we are in the finals. And we are going to have to play some league games without him.

Him Rodri, and Sterling need to rested more often. Especially him, seeing as he came in after a few games and has already out minute everyone.

Happy he is great. But I need him managed like any great player.

I think Stones is the better footballer. But yes, you are right, Dias is more critical.

He is a fucking beast. I am amazed that we did not have any competition signing him.

Huge kudos to all at the club.
Made many doubt his talent. But in reality players coming from non top 4 leagues are normally considered a higher risk.

So at his price i can see why many were like, Nah! But in fairness, we were the only top team in desperate need of a CB. All the others thought they were good.

I'm glad it all worked out the way it did.

Pep has already said that he can play every three days because he recovers so well and takes such good care of himself.

He will get rested but I suspect that won't be very often. He was supposed to be rested vs Cheltenham but who did Pep bring on when we were having to chase the game.

Sterling hardly ever gets rested because of his powers of recovery.

Every player is different in their needs in this respect and Pep and his staff act accordingly.
