Dias is impressive stuff. Denied mbappe one on one. Playing solid . Hope he carries this consistency .

This guy is a beast... played 90 min basically on a yellow and was sublime.

Couldn't watch.

But from what I've read a defensive master class from both teams, and he was great.

Mbappe was 1v1 against him 3 times and he stopped him each time.

I'm feeling more and more assured of him and Laporte as our assured defensive partnership.

Elbowed Giroud on the head 2 minutes into the game to mark territory. That was no accident at all, he was trying to intimidate the frenchman. Such Ramos-esque behaviour can be great, but had it not been so early in the game he would have been sent off.

amended for accuracy

I really think we have really got something here.

There was one cross where, if we were being 100% picky, we could say he 'could' in a perfect world, have stepped back & marked his man, rather than leaving it to the bloke behind him, but you just can't be 100% perfect, whoever you are.

The instances v Mbappe, he defended exactly as Koulibaly would do: fuck the offside, don't gamble, go with him & defend it & he was quick enough to do it (you would never think so listening to the 'expert' fucking clown).

He is great on the ball, really great, tough as old boots, good in the air & can play on both sides (as they all should be able to do tbf but many can't).

Also, he plays like he's 30 years old & seen & done everything.

I recon, playing on the left, he could get a game out of John Stones too. Brilliant signing.

. Brilliant signing.
We don't need the mix and match tinkering anymore, lets just keep playing Laporte and Dias.

Spot on.

I'd like to repeat what I said in the Transfer Forum too when everyone was having a meltdown and crying about Koulibaly. We've bought Dias at the same age as VVD was when he moved to Southampton, and he's come in with similar characteristics. He will prove to be an incredible signing.

Seen one sad fuck so called blue on Twitter already say "Mangala had a couple of decent games too". Too many people who don't watch football, follow football.

Dogged, takes no prisoners, doesn’t mess about at the back.

Wonderful thing is that he’s young and can only get better. We know players can’t be in form continuously but he looks like he can do the basics of defending regardless of form.

edit: typo

That won't happen.

We need to keep the other two cbs upto speed anyhow, in case of injuries.

Best 2 cbs on show yesterday actually: Dias & Walker.

Food for thought re a back 3.
Walker had a good game, but he still can't defend the crossfield ball - he completely goes to pot.As a centre half in a three, managers will quickly target this weakness.

He's got the aggression and no nonsense defending that Stones could never really offer us (maybe perhaps bar a few months of good form).

It seems like he's deceptively quick too given he was keeping up with Mbappe last night, which seemed to be a concern on here.

A see a lot of Laporte in him to be honest in terms of their characteristics - just a right sided version, even though he also looked very comfortable on the left last night.

Throw in the fact that he's a geniune leader too and I think we have picked up a very good player here - excited to see him playing for us going forward.

Solid game and what I liked is that he seems to be switched on and concentrating all the time. Famous last words perhaps but he looks like a 'proper' defender
