I think this is just a bit of a myth that's developing because it's a nice story to think we signed a Kompany replacement that's defence first and no nonsense.

Dias was involved in the build up of something like 40% of Benfica's goals last year. His passing was one of his standout attributes.

He just hasn't quite shown it here yet, probably because he's just getting his feet under the table, getting to grips with the system etc and of course, he doesn't need to be the main passer from the back.

Fair enough, I haven't looked through his stats at Benfica. But if it suggests he's a better passer then I'm all the more happy. Just says we already have a top-notch player but there's still more to come.

We get the reverse when a signing is working out really well in that the price, in this case the ‘£63m Ruben Dias’ or just the expression of the ‘big/ huge money purchase from Benfica, Ruben Dias’ gets trotted out at ever more frequent intervals.

The commentators are probably at 2/3 a game for him at the moment. If he carries on the way he’s going it’ll be 4/5 by the end of the season and his price will be around £80m mark.
