Ha ha haWell as a Leeds fan I don’t think I’ll have much problem doing that.
Thank god I didn't mention Ferdinand then...
;-)

Why put him on the bench then if he’s not 100%Because he wasn't 100% fit to play yet, and Pep doesn't want to risk injury with players like that.
Every defender you named there was better than van dijk in their prime and won a shed load more to boot. And who is? VVD is easily the best defender in the last 20 years. Sure, he only had 2 years at great level before his injury, but no other defender (Ramos, Vidic, Puyol, Terry, Thiago Silva, Bonucci, Chiellini, Nesta in his old years) has ever been closed to the insane level he had. Dias is an absolute beast, is a leader, has great positioning and timing, is solid aerial, has great blocking. He is easily a top 5 defender for the next 10 years.

FfsIn case of emergency.
I mean it's the truth. That's how it always in football, especially with Pep.
He was playing alongside the worst 3 defenders at the club ffs!
Got to be Lazarus to look good with those and nearly managed it.
oh ffsYet he was the one who made the game-costing error.
Playing without Stones or Laporte exposes how average he is on the ball aswell - if Laporte goes, we’re going to need another very good one in, one in because it’s going to be a tricky season for him. Koulibaly might finally be gettable for a reasonable price now; on the form of the past year at club and international level it’s Stones +1 IMO.
