He has a positional weakness in his game - mid range 1v1's and it's unfortunately getting exposed a lot.





It's worth following the thread to see the longer explanation but this is the bottom line - the way Ederson defends those 1v1's he has a 48% chance of saving them, and if he changed to the more effective method, it would be in the 90's and in line with this other shotstopping.

I think this guy needs to rewatch the goal as this is bullshit. Ederson didn't come rushing out and engage as claimed, ederson is back peddling from the edge of his box from the moment the ball is played through to dallas, he cant continue to back peddle any further than he did and get caught off balance as the guy shoots he has to set himself before the shot, he set himself and took a couple of forward steps to narrow the angle, which is all that he could do in that position.

You can make a valid claim to say he shouldn't have started that far out but thats his style, one that Pep demands and one that fits the team. His starting position is unlike any other keeper in the league because of the sweeping he's asked to do for our high defensive line, this means the decision to close down 1v1s is almost always already made for him purely because of his starting position and if the ball through isn't over hit to allow ederson to come out and clear it its going to put him in a disadvantageous position but Pep is never ever going to tell ederson to start deeper.

He made the big save in both games at key points.

Nonsense, that was a good finish. He did well to get a hand to it imo.

Thought he and Stones could have done better for the winner. Stones should have grabbed his shirt and Ederson came too far legs akimbo. Not a horrendous error either.
