Ederson may not have been in top form this last month but there's no doubt we have the best goalkeeper in the europe.

Whilst I agree about the way we play and the impact how can you say he had no chance of getting across for the first goal. He literally got a hand to it - the problem was it wasn't strong enough. And the second one he assumed Coutinho was putting it to his left so was flat footed. He fits our team perfectly with the way he plays but as a shot stopper he is in my opinion less than average. He commands his area well, and reads the through balls (usually) well, but he couldn't save if he was put in a bank

He is great on the ball and generally pretty proactive in coming for crosses and sweeping etc. His strength is in preventing the opposition from having shots.

But yes, when they do have them, he isn't incredible and some of the goals that go in against him do leave me wishing we had a better shot-stopper.

We just need to remember that he is one of the reasons teams have so few shots against us.

I wonder about some of you on here, four Premier League titles in five years, lowest goals against and most goals for, and beat Liverpool who admittedly are very good in defence and attack, just not as good as us. Yes we wobbled defensively over the last few weeks, but if our main defenders had stayed fit, we could have won the CL, Premier League and FA Cup too. All this slagging off our players irritates me, they all put in the effort, Pep wouldn’t pick them if they didn’t. I have supported City since my grandad took me to see them at Maine Road, before Bell, Lee and Summerbee signed and we weren’t even in the First division. I also joined the demonstration when we lost to Bury and then went down to the third tier, so I just wish people here would actually appreciate where we are now, i stead of slagging off the team. By the way, we are Champions again.

Watched it back, he saved three goals , give it a fucking rest
Quite. I've heard this stuff increasingly over recent months and not just on the concourse before and during games; it's even making its way into the media narrative to use as knocking copy against City.

Perhaps those criticising Ederson for not being 'a good shot-stopper' and for not, therefore, 'winning us vital games/points' might care to wander across to the 'Media Thread' (I think!) to see the highlights of the game at Villa Park posted by another Blue.

The highlights have been posted to point out the stupidity of MOTD's 'Goal of the Month/Year' votes, given these often favour a goal from a Liverpool player, voted for en masse by partial Scouse fans (although it seems to me Arsenal fans are just as guilty of doing the same!) The game at Villa featured the sublime goal volleyed by Bernardo after City turned defending a corner into a masterclass of highly skilful counter-attacking and was, in my opinion, the goal of the season, bar none.. but of course, ignored by the MOTD vote.

But the highlights also show how Villa almost came back to equalise towards the end of the game, when Ederson spread himself to turn away Chukuemeka's shot from close range. It was a magnificent save.

Imagine, had the shot gone in and we had come away with one point rather than all three. Yesterday, it could have meant us starting one point behind Liverpool, rather than one ahead..

So, thanks Eddie for yet another 'Golden Glove' season and being the best at what you do, for being the perfect goalkeeper for Pep's team. And given your age, keep on developing into (potentially) the best goalkeeper ever.

Interesting graphic from the Athletic. Turns out we have a solid goalkeeper in terms of shot stopping only beaten by a few and those few likely had many many more shots against them making it mire likely to prevent some goals and make great saves.Screenshot 2022-05-23 at 21.37.47.png
