I was trying to think of games where Ederson has won us the points because of match winning saves. Still struggling.

He doesn’t.

Last season alone, he gifted a goal to Bellingham that should have stood against Dortmund, and had Havertz not scored in the final he would have been sent off for handling outside of the box. Factor in the soft goals he’s conceded in every Champions League elimination we’ve experienced in the past 4 years, and it becomes obvious he’s a liability when it really matters.

I’d give Steffen a run of games, then next summer try to get Alex Nubel from Bayern. For the first time in Guardiola’s tenure, there’s actually a depth of quality opposition within the league, so a goalkeeper who can make the difference in marginal score lines is going to be essential.

Penalty save in 2017 against Palace, ended 0-0.
Penalty save against Napoli, won 2-1.

Individual saves are a lot harder to remember.

Who are we comparing him to here? I think its widely accepted that Allison is probably up there with the top keepers and he has better stats than him in the past two seasons in terms of clean sheets, save % and so forth.

Ederson is the best keeper for the way we play bar none. Wouldn't trade him for anyone else.

Best "traditional keeper" - Donnarumma. I feel very sorry for Kaylor Navas who has excelled at keeping wherever he went - and yet the club he plays for always seems dissatisfied and are after someone better.

To be honest, the performance from Steffen against Leicester would be a top 3 performance by Ederson at City. I am pretty sure that with Ederson we'd have lost 2-0 or 3-0, but I'd still prefer Ederson due to his passing ability.

He is a top 3 GK for City, but he's not top 20 for most teams TBH.

He's perfect for the way we play but we're also perfect for him.
He'd be under a lot more scrutiny at other clubs, where he'd be judged mostly on his 'traditional' goalkeeping skills

This thread is always the perfect litmus test to find out whose opinions to completely ignore. There's not a single player on the planet that's a better fit for us than Ederson, none. He and walker have been Peps two best buys by a long distance and are completely irreplaceable.

You just know that sooner or later he’s going to mistime one of these horribly. The ball’s either going to fly over his head for a tap in, or worse he’s going to put himself and the forward in the Royal Infirmary.

Ederson has made lots of crucial saves for us over the years. He's a world class keeper. Jesus some of the people on this forum are rediculous.
He suits our style and is great to watch. His left foot is truly amazing but let’s not try and pretend his actual goal keeping is world class or even close to it. He gets an easier ride off City fans than pretty much anyone at the club.

Ederson is in the PFA team of the year for a reason.

Yes, his shot stopping is better than average but not amazingly so - but he makes up for this (sometimes it doesn't work out) by very aggressive play - reading the game and charging out of goal to cut out goal scoring opportunities before they materialize.

10/10 for that diving header clearance. Entertainment value that's for sure. He has character which is important. Also his distribution is second to none. A prized asset for our system
Exactly!

On first viewing I thought - wow - lucky that his header found a blue shirt. But on replay, his header wasn't a hasty anywhere-will-do clearance - it looks very much like he headed the ball exactly where he wanted - to an open blue shirt.
