I didn't say I want him out, I just don't like seeing excuses being made about his shot stopping. It's becoming a bigger and bigger problem for us and we can't keep denying it.
I've not made excuses on his shot stopping and I certainly haven't denied it. I've said several times on this forum that shot stopping is Ederson's weakest attribute.

It's evident he is suffering from low confidence at the moment and going through a bit of a rough patch. This happens to all keepers at every level. However, most of our games are televised and mistakes are scrutinised more than ever.

Like @SWP's back pointed out it seems our goalkeeping coaches are not up to scratch. I think this is most probably the case. I think Edersons' positional awerness in the box needs working on as he looks out of position a lot of the time, particularly when he's concentrating on guarding his near post and is often oblivious to the dangers lurking at the far post, and this happens mostly in set piece situations. Joe Hart's positional awareness was very similar i think. And when a keeper is caught stranded and they realise they start flapping emphasizing their error by desperately scrambling for the ball which wouldn't happen if they had better positional awareness.

Also his penalty saving(lack of) needs working on.

That said i wouldn't swap Ederson for anyone because he suits how we play and will regain his low confidence and look more assured like he had in abundance. It's up to the backroom staff to work on his keeping errors and instill the confidence and belief in him. But as others have said our defence is all over the placece at the moment due to our regular defenders being injured, and Eddie is suffering as a result of being exposed a lot more more than he has been.

I really fail to understand the lack of comprehension that a goalkeeper with the distribution skills that Eddie has is the single most important element of Peps game. For proof, ask Hart and Bravo. We have statistically the best defence in terms of goals conceded in the PL, despite our injuries this season where we have hardly been able to play our best CB partnership and we don't have a specialist left back. And yet they still complain. Yesterday West Ham scored two breakaway goals, neither his fault, neither you would expect him to save and yet they still complain.

He is perfect for us and we are lucky to have him. If he left, Pep would try and buy the closest identikit goalkeeper to him.

I do wonder sometimes that folk fail to see the big picture and focus on the few mistakes he makes.

Hope you are feeling better this morning mate.
Yes better today thanks. Your post sums up exactly my views on Ederson and on the goals yesterday. I tend to watch games on tv on my own or calmly at matches, firstly as a supporter but secondly as an ex coach in various sports and take the good with the bad. I sometimes wonder what proportion of a game some folk actually see, their big picture seems out of focus.

He is second based on those stats.
As I suggested in my earlier post, goalkeeping stats are at the very least, dubious. They give no indication of the type, power, direction etc of the shots faced by any goalkeeper, or of the degree of luck involved.

In my opinion, stats are bullshit aimed at giving pundits something else to go on about at length. You can only really judge a goalkeeper with the your eyes... it's all subjective. Was it a good save or a lucky save? Did they make a mistake? Was it a weak shot or a 'thunderbastard' (to use current terminology)?

The only person Ederson has to convince is Pep. Personally, I think we could do better than Ederson. So do many others it would seem. At the end of the day, we're just punters with differing opinions on many things.

Most games,he has fuck all to do,and a bit of boredom creeps in,convinced of it,but when he does have to switch on he seems to concede piss poor goals, scuffed shots etc

Got sent a video doing the rounds of his fuck ups and when you see them, wow, there are some bad ones, but like i said on here on this thread a few week ago, getting more worrying game by game.

Why don't you take one for the team and send Eddie the video, along with some tips on what he needs to do, just some expert advise to boost his confidence. If it helps him we all benefit.

He didnt know it was offside , he makes great saves but is thrown uder the bus with patched up defenders in front of him
He makes great saves? That’s not true, has he ever made great saves? I’m sure he has he’s a goalkeeper. The same way if someone played as a striker all their career I’m sure they can manage great goals occasionally. So when we keep clean sheets it’s ederson, when we concede it’s the defence? Defending was shit against wolves, should he have saved it? Yeah. It was shit yesterday, should he have saved the second goal? Yes. Can’t solely blame the defence if the opposition create a chance, it’s what a goalkeeper is there for, to dig you and the defence out of the shit when needed. No point him being there if it’s ok to concede if we’ve defended poorly

Instead of being a smart arse you can accept it. He’s been done by similar goals and mistakes a few times. He’s been shown to make stupid rash decisions in the heat of the moment many times, city will be well aware of the mistakes and decisions. Like the way pep laughed off his clearance against Liverpool. I think an element of boredom does creep in but that’s where city need to try and resolve that, you know, the people being paid thousands of pounds a week to do that job.

Some matches he’s not made an error with the goals he’s concede, but you’d expect better or hope for a decent to top class save to occur and pull us out of it.

I don’t feel tha if we face a barrage of shots in a game, that we’ll escape unscathed. Even in the Champions League when you might only face one or two top class efforts, do we expect him to pull it out of the bag and see us through most of the time?

And you're happy with him being 4th best in that table, that's fine.
Whilst being no.1 on anything to do with distribution. What do you want? The best at distribution AND the best shot-stopper? It doesn’t exist. Being 1st and 4th is pretty fucking good, yeah.
