Ladies and Gents, this thread is player performances. You’ll have much more fun reading the bickering on the transfer thread. Will he, won’t he.
It’s like an episode of Corrie from yesteryear. Get your popcorn and hop over.

Not too worried. Ortega played 9 PL games last season. 7 wins and 2 draws. Tough matches like Liverpool, Tottenham, Palace and Newcastle away, or Arsenal, West Ham and Brighton home. People thinking we will downgrade without Ederson, how do you explain those 9 matches?

Yes Ortega has done very well for us and that save from Son was HUGE !
I think Eddie has the edge with his distribution but I'd be happy to go into the season with either of them. I rate them both very highly and I wouldn't swap either with any other keeper, if Eddie wants out then Pep will let him leave, he has stated this many times with players who want to leave..

Ederson in new contract talks. Just when I was starting to believe a Saudi club was going to pay a goalkeeper 600,000 clams per week

The narrative is set on here that the debate about Eddie is only based on a big Saudi money offer turning his head.

We know that Ortega wants more minutes and has extended his contract, which means that Maresco and Pep wanted to keep him and surely that they have offered him an interesting plan about game time.

That must not mean he was told to be the new #1, but certainly more game time - and that leaves less for Eddie. That's some kind of downgrade for Eddie and surely a reason to look somewhere else...

That is how it seems to me.

I also don't buy the other prominent narrative that our game is vastly being dependent on Eddie.
His long distributions are unmatched but besides that Ortega's distribution is good enough for what we need - and on top he is a better shot stopper, penalty killer and has a more controlled timing out of the box instead of Eddie's kamikaze style clearances.

I fully understand Eddie is loved for all the silverware he won with us but his influence is exaggerated.

If Eddie stays as #1 Ortega would feel betrayed
while Eddie surely can't stay as #2.

I think the decision has been made by Maresca and Pep/Txiki, not by Eddie. Looks like a farewell. IMHO.
What has the Chelsea manager got to do with anything?

Best penalty taker by far. I really hope he works on his diving in penalties. He dives far too early, and makes it too easy for good penalty takers to just change the direction.

He actually went the right way in a few but didn’t get enough on the saves.
Because they were rifled in. That's just a good penalty. Haaland scores loads of penalties the same way, keepers go the right way but there's no chance they can keep it out because of the power he's put on it.
