thought he was one of our better players last night
He doesn't perform miracles with his hands you are right. He’s a goalkeeper, not a miracle worker/mind reader!
Dias should never blob that clearance for the first. And to say he should have saved the third? L-O-L
Had Dias got the touch on it he should have. Ederson is in the perfect position.
I'm in agreement with you here. Dias had one job, and it's to make sure the runner can't get a shot in before Ederson can arrive to try and deal with itNo, dias made it easy for Mbappe not Ederson. He read the game, he was in his customary position prepared to sweep, the ball came in, hes instantly backtracked knowing it isn't a ball to come for, dias makes a mess of it and leaves ederson up shit creek. What is Ederson supposed to do differently?
Do I believe he should be stood there? Yes, 100% because that's what's he's instructed to do as the sweeper keeper and that's the system that has helped us win what we've won.
All I'm seeing here is you disagreeing with Peps decision to play sweeper keeper, something he's done through the entirety of his career and suggesting Ederson should be directly disobeying those fundamental principles.
Seeing as youre insistent Ederson is to blame here, i'll ask you this, where do you think he should have been instead? And what did he do wrong in your eyes?
Have you? I see you say a lot of where he shouldn't be and what he shouldn't do but I haven't seen you say where you think he should be and what he should do instead.I've already given you the answers to the questions you are asking. You dont think he made a mistake, I think he did. The conversation has run it's course.
I'd like my keeper to have them answersHave you? I see you say a lot of where he shouldn't be and what he shouldn't do but I haven't seen you say where you think he should be and what he should do instead.
First leg where instead of trying to use his hands, he chested it into the path of their player to concede a goal. Why from a tame shot outside the area last night did he choose to chest the fucking thing away instead of claiming it properly?
So you want the keeper to decide where to be and actively ignore the game plan?I'd like my keeper to have them answers
Maybe it stands out when Ederson does it due to the amount of goals he is consistently costing us.This is a football wide issue for all keepers. I know we laugh at arteta for making excuses like this but it's the balls. They make unpredictable movements in the air, if it moves close enough to a keeper who is trying to claim it, it's quite likely they'll flap at it and it goes in, we've seen that happen everywhere. As a consequence, keepers don't take risks on garhering certain shots anymore they get their body behind it instead of taking it in for the extra security if it does move, ederson did it last night, courtois also did it from a really tame foden effort from almost the halfway line that could easily have been followed up on and i suspect haaland would have had he been on the pitch. Neuer did it the night before too as did schmeichel in the same game. Its what keepers do now.
So you want the keeper to decide where to be and actively ignore the game plan?
You can disagree with the game plan if you like but that's peps decision and your disagreement is with his choices, you can't be slating a player for following instructions.
Ederson did read the game, as soon as the ball over the top was played he's read it and started backtracking, there is nothing else he can do. You seem to be disguising "disregard the entire gameplan" behind "read the game" Presumably because typing out what you actually want him to do makes it crystal clear what a ridiculous expectation it is. What you, and others seem to want is for him to go rogue and just flat out ignore the entire gameplan. No city keeper under pep, will ever be allowed to ignore a direct fundamental instruction to always be prepared to sweep.Maybe it stands out when Ederson does it due to the amount of goals he is consistently costing us.
I want my players to read the game, they aren't robots and stick to every single instruction for the entire game. His positional play cost us first leg, like it has cost us numerous times this season. 5 minutes into the first leg I said to my mate that he will cost us a goal at least, he cost us two and was only a marginal offside away from giving away a stupid penalty. He is done now and is costing us far more than what he is contributing. Ortega for me the rest of the season, let Eddie carry on with a slapped arse face on the bench.
Not sure why you’re bothering to argue the case. Some people just don’t understand the bigger picture and can only say what they see in that moment.Ederson did read the game, as soon as the ball over the top was played he's read it and started backtracking, there is nothing else he can do. You'd presumably agree the defence play the high line because we employ the sweeper keeper tactic. So in the scenario you want to see, where ederson decides when he is and isn't going to follow instructions, what's the plan for the defence? How will they all simultaneously be made aware when Ederson is or isn't going to do as he's told so they can then also decide when they should ignore instructions too? Telepathy?
When the defence use their new telepathic skills to read Edersons mind, see he isn't going to follow instructions and so the defence in impressive unison all abandon the high line and drop 30 yards as a result, will the midfielders be left 40 yards from their backline or are is it some kind of team wide telepathy we've developed?
Could he have done a bit better on the 2nd goal? I think he was caught flatfooted but it was definitely more a defensive mistake than his direct fault
It's just a recurring theme with ederson. not really his direct fault but you always end up left wanting, feeling like you haven't squeezed the most out of situation. Never ever saving penalties is a good example. you can't really blame him, they are supposed to be scored, but sometimes you wish he'd do more, provide that shocking save, have slightly better reflexes. Maybe a better keeper doesn't tilt right so heavily and manages to bring himself back on time.Hes angling right because Khusanov is blocking the way down the left and in theory should get in the way.
So when it gets through Khusanov, he's left flat footed because he's already tilting right.
Nobody really to blame, just happens.

There’s a decent shout for offside as there’s a scouse player in his eye line.Could he have done a bit better on the 2nd goal? I think he was caught flatfooted but it was definitely more a defensive mistake than his direct fault
