33 | Nico O'Reilly - 2025/26

Wait, what? The kid is good, but that's a stretch

When Yaya was 20 years old he was failing a trial for Arsenal! It's not a useful comparison though, he was a complete unicorn, no one has emerged in the 10 years since he stopped being a top player who is even reminds me of Yaya.

Here are some 21 year old Yaya highlights from Monaco -

The little body feint at the beginning is very Nico, but you can see he already had the ability to curl one in at pace from 25 yards and play passes we've not seen from O'Reilly.

I don't suppose any of you are at risk of massively overhyping a young lad who's only played a handful of games in midfield for the senior team, only to be let down when he doesn't reach these near-impossible heights..?

Yeah! Failing a trial at Arsenal was a fail for Arsenal not Yaya. Yaya was a beast from jump.

Wouldn't say he was poor, just wasnt involved much. He was making the right runs beyond, we just wasn't in a position to find him or chose not to play it. Probably could have dropped and shown in the pockets more but it looked like yhe plan was Cherki drops and he bombs on. Should have scored with that chance, decent enough effort but he can easily put that either side of the keeper

Let’s hope he is back for Madrid. Midfield weak as piss without him and missed his runs into the box. Way ahead of Phil currently.

He gets to write his own improved contract. Think he will end up being our best player from the academy, if he carries on his trajectory. Midfield had no physical presence last night.

The most exciting young player in England not that you'd know it with the lack of praise for him in the media although from our perspective that's probably a good thing - helps to keep his feet on the ground

Maybe that's partly why all these rags and dippers hailed as the next big thing fall by the wayside

Don't think he had a bad game by any means. Started poorly but grew into it and was a solid 6/10 in the end, just unfortunate that that was one of his quieter games and Tuchel is watching live.

I think he’s looking a bit leggy. He’s played a lot and now he’s moved into midfield, he’s not get much in the way of a breather within games. He could probably do with a rest but I’m not sure we can afford for him to have one.
