I agree. He was a very committed player for us especially in the "Maine Road massacre of United." I think people mistake his "wooden" presenting style for hostility. He seems to lack emotion when he is commentating but I think he is just concentrating too hard to be unbiased.Pretty much spot on.
All the over sensitive fannys on here don’t take into account that he’s just a guy tryna earn a living with a broadcaster and has to be impartial. They take impartial as anti city. If any of em ever went to a game they’d know that many fans in the ground are far more critical of City during a game than Hinchy ever is - doesn’t stop em being proper blues.
Worse still are the morons whose milkman’s cousin’s girlfriend’s boss once saw Andy smile when Utd scored and based on such incontrovertible evidence believe him definitely to be a rag
Hinchy’s one of us and always will be
Hinchcliffe holding up five fingers as he ran right in front of me (I was in the Kippax) was a moment I have never forgotten. This day was up there with 93.20 for me.Love it love it love it
IIRC they had a crunch game at Millwall at on stage where they could have ended up in the bottom 3 but sadly the t**ts won 5-1I never realised how low down the table the rags finished that season but just looked up the final league table :

Before the game absolutely everyone in the Boozer thought we were going to get battered -they had won 5-1 at Derby the week before IIRC. So what followed was just surreal -and we basically declared at 5-1 with 30 minutes to go. Who remembers the “No More Excuses” banner in the Away end?!Brilliant day. Like many blues, Ithought we'd get battered and actually felt a sense of relief thinking the game might be abandoned after the trouble in the North Stand (silly me!).
As others have said, massive celebrations on the Kippax when we scored( with that Bournemouth game fresh in the memory I only really felt confident when that fifth one went in though of I'm honest)
The away fans took it well didn't they! Weren't many left at Full time. One rather bitter Rag was in the social club after the game with his brother in law, started having a go at me because of my long hair (was well into my Heavy Rock back then) Just smiled smugly, walked away but felt a bit sorry for his brother law who he no doubt would start on later!
Along with the 10:1, will always be in my top 10 City games, no matter how good we are now. Did we 'dine out' on the result too much at the time ? perhaps! but there weren't many such moments in those days!
Funnily enough I personally thought we probably outplayed them more the following season when we were totally in control but somehow fucked up a 3:1 lead (and almost lost!) but it was certainly our day on the day of 'The Maine Road Massacre'!!
Sad about your mate's Mum, nice touch after all these years.Missed the game as moved to London to start my career a week earlier. However I was at my brother's house in Essex, a big red, so the result is up there with my favourite ever city game. Unfortunately received a call from my best mate to say his Mum had passed away from Leukemia that day at 50 yrs old , which dampened the mood.(Text him on Saturday 34 yrs on )
The following Saturday ( think it was) was at Highbury for Arsenal away, there were 1000's of city fans there still high on the win ..."Morley 2 Oldfield 1 we beat utd 5 to 1" as we marched to Highbury after the game
