I said this about Grealish, crikey I even said it about Pep for goodness sake! I’ve said it about others as well.
It sometimes takes a season to settle, especially these days with the simplicity/complexity of our system under Pep.
Give young Kelvin a chance, don’t condemn the lad to play for that lot down the East Lancs. No one deserves that. ;-)

He's not young though.....and we have literally just wasted a season on him.I don't think we can afford to try again when there are no signs at all that he is up to the task.
If an offer anywhere near 40m materialises,we'd be mental not to take it and,if it is from the Dippers, joking aside,so would he.

Yeah, of course mate. I'm not sure they're that far down the line yet though - just sounds like speculation to me
I’ve heard whispers Pep’s unimpressed which is the opposite of how he was with Grealish and Rodri at this time in their first season.

I think we’ve done this with many players, written them off in first season…e.g. Grealish and Rodri and Ake.. there must be more .
how about we wait til second season to judge, he didn’t get in England team for being a dud, apex’s tactics are complicated compared to Leeds, let’s give him a chance.

I think it's much more a matter of Pep giving him a chance to be honest.

If Pep likes what he sees in training etc, Phillips would have been given more minutes than he's had. There have been plenty of opportunities to give him more time, but as demonstrated by his very late introduction on Saturday, he's fallen well behind others.

It's not a 'first season' matter, he's simply not meeting expectations of fans and coach alike. Sometimes you just have to accept the fact that we've signed a dud.

Phillips certainly isn't Txiki's first dud, and he most likely won't be his last.

Huge difference is that those who have struggled to settle still put a shift in. Kalvin barely moves. When he came on against Leicester he was trotting about. The game was won when he came on, but they created enough in the second half to have at least got a draw. At one point Dias was following the runner and pointing to Maddison to show Phillips to track him. Kalvin jogged behind him and watched as he had a shot on goal, which luckily went near post and Ederson saved it.

That's absolutely unforgivable and Pep now knows he can't play him as cover for Rodri. He would have thought it after the Saints loss in the league cup, but given him the benefit of the doubt. But after that performance he's got no chance. That's why we had Gundo covering for Rodri instead on Saturday. That's a game Phillips should be starting, but with no effort in his play Pep couldn't do it.

We could have been bringing Lavia through this season. Pep rightly thought we could do with someone who knew the league and had experience in big games. Which Kalvin has from playing for England. And he's played well it must be said.

I don't mind him lacking a bit of quality as he's been out for a while and it's tough role, but the lack of fight and graft is unacceptable.

That has always been the case with our fanbase, you put in a shift and it can excuse a multitude of sins.....play like you dont give a fuck and you'll be rightly destroyed.

I don't think Phillips will get a second season here because unlike Grealish Rodri and Ake he's not even tried to succeed. His omission from the semi starting line up was surprising, but it's looking like Pep just doesn't trust him. We'll see, but the only thing Phillips has done this season is take the piss.
