He doesnt even have to do that, just become a reliable back up and give us 20 or so games a season. Saw a bit more from him when he came on v Brighton. Big pre season for him.

The biggest issue I see is his lack of pace and lack of awareness of opposition players around him. He’s been dispossessed frequently in dangerous positions and then doesn’t have the acceleration to get back and put a challenge in. If anyone can improve him through coaching though, Pep can. Rodri took a while to settle and he too was regularly dispossessed in his first season so there is definitely hope that he can make the grade. I really want him to, he’s an honest lad and hopefully will put the graft in to come back next season looking sharp as a tack. Good luck Kalvin.

He will never gain pace so will need to rely on good positioning and technique. At 27 I think you can improve your understanding of the game still and that will improve the positions you take up and allow you to anticipate danger and block off passing lanes but I don't think its so easy to improve on your technical level and that looks lacking.

I do love a player that comes back from criticism and proves a lot of people wrong. If Phillips does improve, I think that will finally shut people up when it comes to a player not performing in their first season under Pep. We’ve seen it so many times now.
