Can tell he almost feels guilty celebrating this one because of his lack of involvement - Grealish alluded to something similar last season in his interview. Think he said in his NBC interview that he and Pep both know he hasn’t been ready but he aspires to be the level of Gundo and Rodri. We need to give him one more season and he really needs to take the opportunity.

Listened to an interview he did with talksport on the way home and he says that he is still trying to take it all in. Pep’s coaching is so in-depth that he struggled to adapt, throw in the injuries and we have what looks like a non runner. Also said that when he arrived at training he didn’t feel like he belonged. Hopes to stay at city for 5 seasons. So unless pep has been talking crap to him I can’t see him moving this summer. Where that leaves us with recruiting for midfield is anyones guess.

Yeah I've been quick to criticise him for the lack of effort, but if Pep's said to him what he said to Rodri initially; "don't run too much" then perhaps that is why. It's probably the hardest place to play. He's not confident he should be here, he's had injuries and issues with fitness and it's no surprise he's looked abysmal when compared to the greatest DM in the world!

He's also got a manager who played that role and will undoubtedly be giving him a million instructions. More time on the pitch, more confidence and the other elements should bind together. Sharpness was the only thing missing on Saturday, and that's from a lack of playing time. Otherwise he was pretty effective. A few poor passes, but some excellent ones too. I had a great view of one he pinged over to Palmer, a beaut of a pass. Shame he didn't get his goal, just a moment like that can change the mentality of a player.

If he is able to push on and perform at the same level that Jack is, everybody will be absolutely delighted.

People are still just too quick to judge players here. Better footballers than Phillips have needed a full 12 months to get used to Guardiola and his/our ways. Add to that the fact that he's had injuries, a lack of confidence because of said injuries, is it really a surprise to anyone that he's yet to show why we signed him?

I've seen enough of him for Leeds and England to know there's a very good player in there.

Watched his interview and you can’t help but like the guy. He is humble he know there is work to be done and is willing to get down train and work hard. Hope he can take the next season by storm like grealish. I think he is a good player. Jist seemed he is overwhelmed his first season.

Looked more comfortable when he came on last night and played one Rodri type pass from goalie to full back that was confident and had to be perfect to avoid being intercepted. First time I've seen him try that and pulled it off superbly. It was a confident pass. Good to see

not seeing much that makes me believe he will play on the required level (defensively). the "others also needed a year to acclimate" stuff is a bit wonky as well as those players played way more minutes in their first season than he has (yes I know he was also injured). I hope he comes around though as he seems to be a nice bloke and clearly has some great traits (passing).
