Or if Tommy Hutch hadn’t peeled away from the wall!
Yes I was right behind that goal, gutted. They were second best that day and never going to score apart from that fluke.

Went to Elland rd that night, Malc got the sack once again we were the better side, honestly thought we were so close to being a top outfit full of young lads.As a teenager gutted when he went.Funny how everything seems to morph into a black or white binary choice when the truth is nearly always a shade of grey.
Allison is quite correctly blamed for self-inflicted financial stupidity, and yet the starting XI for his last game at Elland Road boasted 8 homegrown players (the 2-2 draw at Old Trafford the previous week had featured 9)
Bond is quite correctly celebrated for the 80-81 turnaround after the popular and influential signings of Hutchison McDonald and Gow.
However, two of those players had left the club within 18 months, and by the time of his last game in charge (the infamous Cup defeat at the Goldstone Ground in 83) the other signing had been replaced at Left Back by Bond’s son.
Both Managers also seemed to make a stack of anonymous short-term signings. I’d completely forgotten that Stuart Lee actually scored 2 goals for City, but can anyone remember Bobby Shinton’s loan spell at Millwall or to which clubs John Ryan, Phil Boyer signed for after City, or indeed anything particularly memorable about Martin O’Neill’s time at Maine Road?
Big Joe was never going to get beaten that day without that, sadly their name was on it never played a game outside London except semi final against Wolves everything went for them including luck and ref in replay.Yes I was right behind that goal, gutted. Still hurts today,Reid had been pulled out of position otherwise he'd have got a tackle in no problem Villa got no joy out of him in either game. That was when the FA Cup mean't more than anything was heartbroke.Even that fucking Villa goal they rave about was a fluke. He's just going around in circles wondering what to do when he somehow stumbles into the area and pokes it into the net.
Read Martin O'Neils book on holiday recently, plenty of humorous stories in it but he mentions City sold him to Norwich because they hadn't paid Forest for him or paid Norwich for Reeves.Funny how everything seems to morph into a black or white binary choice when the truth is nearly always a shade of grey.

Possibly it hasn't turned out to badly losing that to Spurs is probably the only thing i still fret about :-)Yes it was still a big trophy back then. It was only five years after we had won the league cup and four years after we'd come runners up to Liverpool in the league. In spite of a wobble we were still classed as a top club and maybe winning the cup that year our history would have turned out differently. Who knows?
Good catch……now corrected! It’s Tommy Hutchison please.
The best goal of that Final was the amazing Steve McKenzie goal. It wasn’t the winning goal which is why I feel that it is largely forgotten about (except by City fans).Even that fucking Villa goal they rave about was a fluke. He's just going around in circles wondering what to do when he somehow stumbles into the area and pokes it into the net.
