Lack of pace in the middle was fairly fucking obvious after the 1st goal huh?

Pep did nothing.
Baffling.
dias was obviously not 100 % and awful mistake for first goal but what the hell was ederson doing there. every corner he stayed back so obviously cant run alot wont be suprised if out at weekend

He's a center back being thrown at right back against Real fucking Madrid. That's a pretty fucked up situation to be in considering everyone around you is out of form or out of shape and you've been in a new country less than a month. Playing or not playing today doesn't really mean anything as he was one of 4 options at that position.

Between this and the Pep thread, you might be best off having a break from the forum for the night.
It's a tough situation of course and I didn't deny that, what I'm talking about is this belief that you shouldn't play young players because you're throwing them out to the wolves and their confidence will be shot...etc, it's an excuse I've been hearing all season because Pep refused to play youngsters despite the injures, and I just don't get it.

Did a good job, never let his head drop either. The future is bright and an excellent experience for him even if it didn't go out way by a long stretch.

Pep was expecting us to keep the ball better and create more chances rather than consistently give it away and let them have acres to run into.

The first goal was abysmal defending but there was just no pressure on the ball and that can't have been the game plan.
Well he should've not used Gundo and Bernie together if he was expecting us to keep the ball better or creating chances.

It’s the circumstance you play them though. O’Reilly in the PL against Everton is fine. Khusanov against Madrid is questionable but Pep felt more forced into that than he does with putting O’Reilly in the midfield.

I didn't question it, Khusanov has speed and power and you need that against Vinicius, Rico on other hand is a mismatch, should've done it in the first leg too.

Honestly love him. Playing out of position, asked to keep the fucking width, away at the Bernabeu, against Vinicius and he kept fucking going. Beasted Vinicius in a footrace a few times, made a nuisance of himself going forwards and all this with only sharing a common language with Scott Carson. Love it.
This 100%. One of our best players tonight. Maybe the biggest positive out of this game. Kept Vinicius quiet playing out of position. He was faster and stronger. Let that sink in. He will be in our 11 next time we win the CL.

I'd love to know his fastest 100m on a running track. It has to be at least in the mid 10s.
Nah, not that quick, add a second on to that and that's probably his ballpark. His acceleration from a standing start isn't great but his top speed is impressive. In a 100m race against sprinters he'd be left for dead from the traps and never recover. If you took doku's initial burst of acceleration and combined it with khusanovs top speed, you'd potentially have an Olympic standard runner.

He was brilliant. Amazing signing. Better than Stones, Dias, Ake and Akanji now. And he's 20.
