How's Watford going?

It's all relative to the targets the club sets and the talent we produce. A key target of ours, from day 1, was to integrate youngsters into the first team picture; Khaldoon has stated that numerous times and the talent and investment in our academy speaks to that. However, our ability to bridge that gap has failed thus far, we lost one of the best youngsters in the world because of our track record.

Foden has to play games and I genuinely don't see a valid reason not to. Are we so much better off playing Gundogan as a number 8 than playing Foden who's more dynamic and adept at playing the number 8 role. I've said this before, the benefits of starting Foden are greater than what happens solely on the pitch; it avoids another Sancho situation by demonstrating a clear path to the first team for our academy graduates.

There is absolutely no benefit to starting Gundogon over Foden at this point and in fact it puts us at risk of losing Phil. I've said it before, Pep will not be out manager in 2-3 seasons time, but we need to ensure Phil is still at the club and we do not lose him.
