BM braintrust sharpening their knives nice and early this season…

Think he is hamstrung by playing out left, today he turned into prime Mahrez everything was sideways or backwards! Unfortunately he’s not going to get time in the middle whilst we have Gundogan, KDB and Bernie ahead of him. Hes obviously following Peps orders but him going past people etc has disappeared, today he should’ve shot and decided to pass to Haaland like he’s almkst frightened of pissing Pep off. Last week when he dropped to almost Left back he had more space and thrived, left wing is not for him.
Sums it up that the biggest insult is to call him one of our most consistent and effective big game players, especially in Europe.

I don't think it's getting the knives out to acknowledge a player is not in great form and probably needs a week on the bench.
He’s been getting ott criticism since the first game imo but I’m not gonna change it and I’m not staying about tonight to comment anymore.
Dropped points always sees this place go a bit mental.

He was always going to go through a period where not everything goes his way. Properly managed, the struggle will make him better.

I feel a bit like we're trying to play him how Grealish plays, when perhaps the more sensible approach would be to appreciate we have two very different players who can play the same position, and work towards carving out a role for Phil that plays to his strengths when he's on the pitch.

We want them to be different, to offer different things, or else there's no point in having both of them. But right now I think we're asking Phil to play the Jack role of controlling the tempo and manoeuvring defenders out of position to create space for our midfield to exploit. When probably what we should be doing is helping him establish a Phil role that facilitates his natural instinct to run at defences with pace and trickery. Part of the problem, I think, is that that role is inevitably higher risk, and if he loses the ball the gap in behind up against Cancelo is potentially dangerous.

I'm not sure what he is or what he does anymore. Certainly no better today than 2 years ago. Very difficult to justify a selection currently.

He doesn't score a lot - scores a decent amount for a very young midfielder
He doesn't assist a lot - 2 assists in the last 2 games coming into todays game
He doesn't dribble past his fullback constantly and make things happen - he is one of the best dribblers next to Bernardo in our team and is constantly trying to mke things happen..look at what Pep has said..sometimes hedrives forward to quickly trying to make things happen
He doesn't run his socks off for the team ---- are you kidding? he is always tackling back
He can't dictate the tempo of a game - agree...this is what Pep says he needs to learn but he learns that with experience.
He's not rapid...neither is gundo, KDB bernardo or most of our team (with the exception of Haaland and Walker)....
He doesn't have the vision to pick out passes others don't see - wrong...he is a great passer and absolutely has this ability

None of the above is drasitcally going to change either - why? he is still developing...he has every chance he is going to change...much older players under Pep have developed their game (kun being a prime example). So most of what you have posted is completely wrong.

I worry about Phil because it feels like he is becoming a robot in the system. He is at his best when he just plays. That means off-the-cuff stuff. At the moment it’s all very structured and for whatever reason our wide men seem to suffer more than most in this system. I’m tired of seeing our wide men get the ball, stop and pass backwards.

He is a player being told not to take risks. It’s pretty simple if you watch him. For better or worse (probably worse from his POV) but it’s glaringly obvious that he’s playing how he’s told.
Its a shame because we are losing a maverick but as most will know, control of the match comes first for Pep.
