Me too, I didn’t think he was anything special in the World Cup either …. but since then he’s dipped even further. Today was possibly his worst ever game in a blue shirt.
He was poor in the WC for a player of his talent, Southgate was slaughtered for not playing him, like Pep, he maybe was seeing all is not well with him.

Something doesn't seem right with Phil. However for me Phil this season his best performance come on the right side. I feel maybe he needs to be put back on the right (kind of like cancelo when he was playing on right he hasn't looked right but put him back on the left today he seems better) my favourite front attacking 3 this season has been foden haalamd grealish which coinckdently hasn't played since Manchester derby in October.

I think Phil needs to realise that he is in the big time now, and failure is not an option. He may be suffering from big time Charlie syndrome.

The reality is that he is exceptional at nothing but fairly good at most things. However he is out of form, clearly lacking belief and frankly is in danger of becoming City's version of Deli Ali.

It's sad that being played in positions and systems that don't suit can turn a potential world beater into little more that an egg beater.

Should be fucking roasting AWB. His performance yesterday against them cunts was fucking atrocious. As a player he wasn’t good enough but also as a life long City fan he should be leaving it all on the pitch in a derby.

LW, RW, CAM. Wherever he plays at the moment he’s just not affecting games. Needs to sort his head out big time

Not sure if this is a clarkie, so you've got me if it is

But what is this notion that our players need a rest and then everything will be sorted

Seen the same about Kev spouted after todays game, Rodri as well.

It's the same clutching at straws that is in the same bracket as people saying Foden will be fine when he's back in his preferred position
There's something missing from his game and hunger to feature. Or, Sven's psychological councillors left with Sven. So many players look so jaded and as if they're being forced to play. Yet, you watch the EDS, Brighton, other teams and their collective attitude is right at the top. CITY and a few players look as if we're facing relegation. Their drive is being challenged. Resting one player at a time for a week can often work. I know, I've played Football Manager.

Pep needs to get tough with Kevin and not play him when he isn’t performing. The football is boring to watch and repeatedly getting goals scored against us by the same method. He obviously won’t change as it happens all too frequently. Those results against lesser teams and I include United yesterday are unacceptable for a team who are champions and a manager with the resources he’s had.

What's that got to do with Foden?

Foden started 3 games in 6 days. Was always going to play only 60 minutes or so. He'll be fine. Form soon come :)

On a side note, members of this forum like to scapegoat less popular players when fan favourites don't perform well or don't start games.

Last season, Laporte was at fault for Stones's problems, as if he was injuring Stones in training. Yesterday, Cancelo was at fault for Foden being invisible yet again, as if Foden wasn't invisible at Stamford Bridge a week earlier.

Laporte and Cancelo did more than the other defenders for our title last season by having 69 league starts between them, in contrast to Stones and Zinchenko who had fewer than 20 starts combined. But if you go by this forum, you may get the impression that Stones and Zinchenko won us the title, while Laporte and Cancelo were making mistake after mistake. Pathetic stuff.

We need to find Foden's most effective position and give him a run of games in that position , when Pep plays Phil he can start in three or four different roles in the team , how can this help him gain form and consistency ? , i know its a criminal offence to criticise Pep to some on here, but Foden is the best English talent in donkeys years and Pep has coached him briliantly up to the present , but Foden now needs a fixed position in the team and given some time to impress.

Right now, given his current level of development that position is on the right supporting the striker.

He is not the only one suffering because of rotation etc.

Pep at least needs to find the core of his team and,as much as possible, stick with it.

The back four has been porous because of rotation , granted there has been injuries but Pep has played Akanji and had Dias on the bench a couple of times , a prime example of his "tinkering". Dont know about you but in previous years i could name seven or eight mainstays who have to start games , now i havent got a clue.

Our team needs to be built on the spine of

--------Eddie------
-----Dias-Stones---
-------Rodri-----
------Haaland-----

Personally id add Foden and Bernie to that.

Would add KDB to that , so they are the eight players who should be starting Premier league and Champs league games ,barring injuries. the other three positions can be rotated , but Pep is changing six or seven every game and it isnt working.
Apologies i know this is the Foden thread but its relative

Just watching Saka and I look back to the fearlessness that Foden had against United and when was up against Liverpool away when he gave Robertson a torrid time.
