Agreed. Let's be honest, Merlins best goals for City were the nutmeg executed on the doughnut theif in the sick swan,a brilliant effort against a dodgy WHU in a pre season game in China( how he scored that one I still don't know)..a classy mazy dribble against a poor blackpool side at bloomfield( 1st match afted Big Mals passing,i was there) and another stunner away at Hull City....Yep. As much as I love Merlin, scoring goals wasn't close to being his main attribute.
Foden was incredible yesterday and my man of the match, which is some going when you consider how well Haaland played. He was all over the pitch and put in a serious shift in defence as well as in attack.
David Silva was a majestic midfielder, with the unique ability, for a footballer,to control the tempo of a game.....Foden would have learned a lot training alongside the midfield genius, but as you say there is no point comparing the goal scoring ability/ style of the two players.Foden is in a different league in that regard, albeit helped by a more advanced position on the field in recent years...
What I'm really looking forward to is our own academy player,in later years, slipping into a central midfield role..and controlling the tempo of games, running the show, just like Silva....but he will still score goals from that position. It's in his DNA.to do damage to the opposition.
He is lethal.
