Said it before, he's only ever played senior football under one man at club level and is molded to play for him...

That's why when we struggle for a period of time, so does Phil. Fully explains why he isn't really the same for England too..

I think he's been coached that much to play for Pep that he can't break out of that, so his form more or less relies on the form of the team as a whole. Some plays can be in form in a struggling team. I don't think Phil can, not because he lacks the technical ability, I just don't think he knows how to because of the above reasons.
Interesting view.

Do you think the lack of pace is down to injury, fatigue or diet
The news that when he moved his family into his own big house..with an onsite pad for his own personal chef alarmed me a little....something has gone wrong.id like to know what it is.

I don’t think Pep is having him if I am honest regardless what he says. If City buy Wirtz or someone on that level then he’s only going to be further down the pecking order. For me his attitude or unwillingness to actually get stuck in is the alarm setter. thought he would become one of the worlds best however it’s not really happened.

Interesting that people are just assuming there is some 'external' issue with Foden this season, because he's been absolutely dreadful.

He's City's Rashford, he's come from nothing and made a shit load of money, and his motivation has completely left him.

This was his season to be the main man for the club that he loves and has played for since he was a kid, if that doesn't motivate you then fuck knows what will.

There have been so many different takes on his external issues, that you just start to think they're all just excuses.

Wouldn't be bothered if he left the club tomorrow tbh, never fully thought he was going to be a main man as he grew older, and this season has proved that.

Still plays like an 18 year old kid.

He's won it all and gone stale like quite a few from the treble winners. Next season is make or break for me. Hopefully he can get his mojo back.

Just watching MOTD. We miss that chance from the corner (Nico) and they break. Foden’s tracking back is horrendous. No effort to bust a gut to get back. Really poor.

He wasn't the only one to be fair. That said, he'd only been on about 5 minutes. At least the rest had an excuse for tracking back slowly!

Foden, Doku, and Savinho provided little or no support to the defence for all the time they were on.

Pep's midfield set up, tactics, and selection were all at fault today.

It was a very risky line up. We will score more than you type of line up. It’s all very scattergun at the moment.

He was coming into his own in January, won the club’s player of the month. He was playing as a 10 or inside on the wing.

He’s not played that position once since then?

He’s been fucked around, played on the left, false 9, stuck wide right with no overlap, not once has he played in his correct position.

He’s not even been given a consistent run in any position at all, the default seems to be to move Foden around, all whilst accommodating players who are performing piss poor in Foden’s best position week in week out.
Think you also have to question why he's being fucked around. At the end of the day the best players and key players don't get moved around. Phil's form this year overall hasn't warranted being that key role and you've got to ask what pep is seeing behind closed doors too. Phil last season got given that key role and the team was centered around getting the best out of him because that was what was best for the team. We haven't seen close to that form this season though. He's got to lay down that marker and make sure he's undroppable / unmoveable.

We know Pep sets a lot of store by player’s performances on the training ground and if he sees a player not committed to his high standards he doesn’t usually get a game……Phil definitely has a problem of some sort though …

Although I agree with Foden needing to take the shirt and keep hold of it, why just Foden though? To me it seems to cause less hassle for Foden to be the one that gets fucked about.

Savinho has been awful on the right, yet plays week in week out. Bernardo Silva is getting far more game time than his form warrants.

People criticising him for yesterday clearly have an issue with him. He played 14 minutes and was more direct in 1 run than Bernardo Silva has been all season.

And people saying about Cole Palmer, I absolutely guarantee if Foden was given the same freedom Palmer gets, people wouldn’t be mentioning them in the same breath.

Struggling to get into a team that is playing poorly and doesn’t have a heavy schedule, not effecting games particularly when playing and the opposition not fearing him is a long way below what I imagined we’d be looking at at this stage of his career.

Something serious going on in his head/off the pitch imo

I think his flexibility over the years can go against him now but again if his form was anywhere close to last year I don't think it'd even be a factor. It's difficult for fans because we only see such a small factor but pep clearly isn't seeing something. I'd guess the Bernardo's and savios that aren't tearing up trees are potentially showing more outside of the games.

My point wasn't really aimed at yesterday but overall this season and people still mentioning Palmer need to move on with their lives.

Backward and sideward only passing does not get you a place in a team.
I wish you wasn’t but you’re incorrect.

As a team, we play considerably more backwards passes than anyone:

And a certain player who plays more often than not plays more backwards passes than anyone else in the league:

He’s definitely a momentum/confidence player. I’d start him in the middle next 4/5 regardless of his performances and just let him play through the shit run.

Foden has regressed physically, mentally he doesn't look sharp either. I think he is depressed from the Euros. Was looking good in January, but he's back to being poor. Offers very little apart from attempts from outside of the box. Currently he looks a level below Savinho or Marmoush.

Many on here thought he was much better than Alvarez. Guess what, Alvarez is having a great season at Atleti, at least as good as Foden's last. 23 goals in all compets with 2-3 months to go...
