47 | Phil Foden - 2024/25

Forget the goal. Another massively disappointing performance and he took the simple option of passing the ball back every time. Whe you look at the attacking play of Savinho it was so frustrating watching him offer so little in attack...never took his man on. City fans praising him for running after he lost the ball...that's the minimum expectation. James McAtee must be given a chance as he's looking a far better option than Foden at the moment. I just pray that Phil can recapture his form from last season.
Sometimes I think I watch a different game.

When was the last time he took on a player ?

He's definitely playing within himself but I think the confidence is creeping back in.

He loves city, he's a fan. Those results will have been killing him. After he scored today, it's the first time this seaaon I've seen his face look like he was genuinely a bit happy.

He'll be alright. Just needs to get his confidence.

I thought Foden had a good game. Haaland’s first goal was initiated by Foden too. He was livid and created several good chances. Back pass is not a sin. A game with only forward passes will end up with either a NBA style score line or loosing the possession every 10 seconds with everyone rushing back and forth.

Another nudge in the right direction today. Was nowhere near how he played last season and nowhere near as fit, weirdly. It’s coming though.

Miles better playing centrally.

This is a bit of nonsense he was good today, maybe not his best yet but good.
He was neat and tidy. Wouldn’t slag his performance off but if that’s the player he’s becoming it’s not the generational talent so many of us thought he’d become.

Why should he become that player rather than get back to being what he was last season ,when he gets his fitness and confidence back?

Why should he? Not saying he has a choice because physically he no longer looks capable bursting past even plodders in midfield. Which at 24 is strange to say the least. He’s never held people off or shielded the ball that well compared to the greats like Modric and Silva. So i’m not saying he can.

Hopefully he keeps improving ,i’m not getting at him. Just saying keeping the ball well without beating people often or playing many great passes for weeks on end is not where i expected Phil to be by now in his career. Time will tell and due to the squad at the moment it will do. Just really hope in 6/12 months time we’re seeing more of the magical stuff from him again or other players may become regular starters over him.
