This lad seldom grasps an opportunity.
His chance to establish himself and be a leader - but hides and points. Just like he is with England. Happy to coast with the odd bit of rare quality to fool people.
Of all the under-performers, he's the most infuriating.
What was he doing last season then. Best player in the league alongside Rodri. Does that sound like a player who doesn’t grab an opportunity?

Glad he’s back, hoping he can stay fit and well and start smiling again. He’s been miles off it this season but he has the talent to get through it.

We need to count on players like him so once he’s fit again he has to perform.

He scored Keys goals yea, I should have been more specific, I was referring to controlling the midfield, dictating the pace, dominating centrally, that was Rodri, Phil is more of a final third/finisher, for me that's not what carrying a team is.

OK OK I'll rephrase.
He seldom has a good game unless surrounded by quality. Not the kind of player to dictate a game himself and shirks/goes missing when needed to.

Remember when blues said that he was better than Saka?

The fact is, he hasn't kicked on at all this season, and last season looks like a flash in the pan.

Currently playing for us as he does for England.

Another one who ducked out of a 50/50 with Mainoo in the first half.

He's more talented than Saka and has a higher ceiling. Both at their very best, Phil is better.

Saka seems the more consistent of the two. Seems to be pretty steady over a few seasons now. One could certainly make a valid argument that they'd much prefer to take a consistent player over a more gifted but seemingly inconsistent player.

He's gone from getting the ball and dictating games to playing hot potato with the ball within about 6 months

Hasn’t lived up to the hype. Had a great season last season but the great players do it season in season out. He isn’t a baby anymore, that being said I really don’t think he is handled the best by Guardiola, never gets a run of games in the right position much like Grealish.

I actually thought he was alright yesterday, given he’s only just come back from illness. If one or two of his shots had gone in there would be a different conversation going on here.

A run of games within a better midfield structure would do him the world of good IMO.

Hype?

He won league player of the season last year. For an academy player who was touted as one of the best, how’s that not living up to the ‘hype’

De bruyne, Haaland and others have also been out of form, are they not great players?

This site is full of mardarses writing over the top comments and throwing insults at all players, the manager, the club.

It's getting out of hand.

It's strange how some people can't accept that a player might be experiencing a decline in performance or period of poor form. They insist that their previous success was an anomaly and that the player was always mediocre.

They must get some joy in thinking they are the only ones who see the 'truth'.
