Grealish was vital 2 years ago, now he isn't. Whether Foden will be in the team depends on his form.

He fell off a cliff after the end of last season and came to life in January, scoring goals without really shining. Let's hope he gets better. Currently, he's on 7 league goals, level with players like Iwobi. That would be fine if he was doing much more than scoring goals, say like prime David or Bernardo. But he isn't. He's currently like a forward who contributes little when he doesn't score. Let's be honest, much more is expected from him, because he has the talent to both score and create, to torment defences.
I told you I agree with all that. He needs to be better in many regards.

None of that refutes the central premise once again.

Foden is not gonna struggle to get in the team any time soon.

He gets goals, so Pep will start him in the big games like Madrid. You can say 7 league goals like its a negative, but that still puts him 2nd on our squad, nobody else is scoring but Haaland.

Its not my opinion, you seem to think it is, im just stating a fact.

Foden wouldn’t struggle to get in any team if he played at the level of his talent, which is extraordinary. I'm on record saying he's my favourite player style wise.

My point was that if he plays at his current level, which includes scoring goals but also being anonymous in some games (PSG, Brugge and Arsenal recently) he might start on the bench some big games next season, as the competition for places is likely to be more serious, with a new star (say, Wirtz) and 2-3 from Savinho, Doku, Marmoush, Bobb flourishing.

I hope Foden can shine in a midfield 3 with Rodri and Nico, playing behind Haaland with Savinho/Marmoush and Doku/Bobb on the wings.

"Foden is not gonna struggle to get in the team any time soon."

Marmoush, and the possibility of Wirtz, Musiala or Rodrygo may differ.

Foden like the rest of the established players will have huge new hungry players competing from next season, he will have to raise his levels and at the end of the day that's good for the team and that's what matters .

I was more talking about this season, not next. Also, doubt we bring in any players like that.

But if he continues to get goals or assists, even with his overall play lacking, do you think Pep benches him?

I dont think so personally.

The last few weeks he is looking way better than early season but he still has a long way to go, he has to make games his far more and for me be working far harder.

The workrate and helping out off the ball is by far his biggest weakness.

LOVE IT that Pep benched him for the pedestrian effort recently.

He did it with Rodri in the CL final and Rodri responded.

Hopefully Phil does too.

I thought he was actually decent.

Should have started over KdB, massive mistake by Pep.

He did fine.
As others have said, if we’re going to play with someone effectively up as a second striker, it should be Foden over De Bruyne every time.
