The fact teams are doubling up on both of the wingers and not overly worrying about him, until he gets close to the area, says it all

I think the opposition have sussed him out, all left foot, loves to drop the shoulder and do the feint and the go again move before getting his shot off. Looks physically nowhere near it - I mean, he looks small on the pitch. No muscle mass at all, no power, no burst, 50-50s are a no contest. Achieved it all (medals and awards) by such a young age that must be in his psyche "what's there left to achieve?". Young, growing family, more money than he knows what to do with, fancy cars etc. Easy to lose your focus and forget what got you there.
Another shocking performance.
You could say that about so many left footed players though and they do it their whole career. With Foden it’s the physical side that he’s lost

What is an off year? How many top players have off years?

KDB, injuries aside, has never had an off year for us. We can't rely on players having off years and hoping they'll come good again eventually.
The whole bloody squad, Pep included, is having a shocker of a year. This is unprecedented levels of shit for all of them.

I agree to a point that if he’s still not performing by this time next year, maybe his future isn’t necessarily with City. But I can’t imagine that will be the case.

They’re all, to a man, not performing like they should. But I don’t think Phil was to blame today.

Ive said it before but I dont think he comes across like he doesn’t care. He just looks lost half the time. But they all do.

Im backing the lad to come good again next year because that’s what hes done for us since he started. Im backing the whole team infact. But sick to death of the Rashford comparisons and the “one good season” fannies in this thread. Short fucking memories some of you.

What a load of bollocks.

So he didnt show any drive last year to drag us to record 4th title and win himself the player of the season which he has never done before?

Hes gone up a level every year hes been here.

Hes having an off year, the whole squad is.
Seems that we never just have one or two players having the occasional bad game, it’s normally all good or all shit, no half measures

I agree partly but I think back to seasons like 19/20 when the team was in a horrific place and KDB still managed a standout year despite those conditions. Even pre Pep days I recall the likes of Silva and Aguero still producing very good individual seasons.

Foden, alongside Haaland who still is scoring goals, should be our marquee player for the next 10 years. However, this season and the Euros has put a huge question mark on that for me. His game has fundamentally regressed and he seems to lack the footballing IQ to be effective without ideal conditions.

Not disagreeing with you on the regression side mate, I’m a Phil fan but no argument that this season has been crap after whatever the fuck happened at the Euros. But I’d argue last season was pretty crap for most of them and Phil and Rodri (and KDB when he wasn’t injured) dragged them through so he’s clearly capable. This season is worse still for everyone. And if everyone is playing badly there’s something rotten in the dressing room at this point tbh.

Haaland is scoring but his overall play is woeful imo. People say no service but he had decent crosses in from Foden and Savio today and did fuck all with them. yeah without him we’d truly be screwed but I wouldn’t point to him as someone who is playing very well this year either.

Everyone is shit this season. Let’s see next season but without a summer break I fear the same. No one has chance to reset.

Phil looks like the majority of the rest of the squad to have hit the wall. This season has been the perfect storm, multiple injuries in key areas and exhaustion from 4 wonderful seasons on the bounce.

The older players are generally suffering more. Foden is suffering with injuries and team changes, mainly forced, affecting the team rhythm.

It’s not a coincidence two of the best current players are new arrivals in Kushanov and Gonzales.

Confidence is a huge factor in sport and at the moment we are missing it

We are not far away and I am sure the rebuild will continue in the summer as we lose some of the ageing starts that have served us so well

As for Phil in a rejuvenated team, I am sure he can get that spark again to be the player he was last season and before
