4k TVs

^^ It's a good point.
Upscaling is usually pretty good on many sets.
Neflix show 4k content (ovbs) but you need the 4k fire stick (presumably) and the 4k service (rather than SD or HD options).

4K isn't just about resolution but also HDR and the impact that can have. Many cheaper sets won't give a proper HDR experience because they can only reach a peak brightness of 350 nits instead of getting to 800-1000+ nits.

Anyway I have Sky Sports UHD (Football, F1), a sub to a decent Plex server (£5 pm) and paid $1 for a Netflix login that still works 2 months later.

Check the specs of the TV. I don't think you will need the 4K fire stick as most smart 4K tvs should play it through the TV without the need for an external source.

I usually research the hell out of stuff going back to the old Panny Plasma sets, but I don't want to spend much on a set at the moment. Just something that upscales well enough and is 'bigger' than my current 32".

Even feel a tad guilty spending this, but as I said above, a film/boxset in the evening is one of those things I have to enjoy atm (not the violins are out here....).

The full spec is at the bottom of this link.

Not expecting anything wow at all, but that's something I'll dive into in the future when I'm more settled.

For the time being this seems like a decent enough purchase?

Might need a PM on this mate :)

Looks like it will play 4k content from streaming apps natively, has a built-in chromecast.

V handy.

This is the antithesis of my usual research methods....months of data modelling via AV Forums :)

In a nutshell: I want an 'ok' but bigger TV and a small treat after a shit couple of years...something to tie me over until I get all into the mood to get decent tech in once again.

Couldn't quite find the HDR details on this set, but it's probably not going to win awards.

Thanks!

I got a 8k TV about a month back, looks pretty good, just for XBox in the kids room and have no idea if it’s upscaling.

55” for £670 can’t grumble.
What make for you get that for at that price mate?

I’m going to be buying a new tele over the Winter at some point, starting looking around this weekend.

Pretty impressed with that Sharp set at that price (50”, 4K for £275).

Onky have freeview atm, but have Netflix & Prime.

My Netflix package is ‘mid table’ so HD only (may bump up to 4K). Does an ok job at upscaling but Prime (which is 4K) really brings this set to life.

Struggles a bit to really punch in various ranges but that’s where you pay your bucks.

A lot of these sets struggle to replicate the quality of the old CRT sets but there’s many variables and the much larger screen sizes & space saving is more than worth it.

Definitely worth a look if you’re in the market for a 4K set on a budget.

The HDR is HDR10, but I know little about this to comment.

Could do with a picture set up but may struggle to find with this model (I’ve made some decent adjustments so it looks much better now).

Still pine for my old Panasonic Viera plasma….loved that set.
