As I mentioned weeks ago, our best defender in every metric.

Pep dropping him for this game was a mistake.

Any other club he’d be first choice by default, probably captain and 6 years into his City career he’s now got to start demanding to be treated with the respect his talent and commitment deserves.

He’s more complete than Terry and Ferdinand were, but will never eclipse or even match their legacies because of the way he’s used here.

He was every bit as good as Dias last season and, for me, is the best footballer we’ve got at the back full stop.

Why he’s in-and-out of the team is a mystery. We are at our best when he plays!

Played in a role alien to him at RB, still bossed the game. Today, he gets benched. Was the best CB last season.

Pep, please explain.

Pep likes a natural left footer to play LCB and a natural right footer to play RCB. It’s that simple!

If Stones plays, Dias moves over to LCB, and Pep not only doesn’t prefer that, I think he feels Laporte has done nothing v to warrant being dropped!

After todays game, Dias is the one that deserves to be dropped of the two!

Still struggling to believe Walker won’t challenge for a header at the back post. NEVER does, and yet you would think he could jump like a gazelle given his sprinting ability?!

As for Cancelo, he runs hot and cold going forwards with his passing, but is a steady COLD defender down his side, or cleaning up at the back.

When he sees Kane free (2nd goal), he MUST challenge him! Instead, didn’t follow him in, didn’t help out Laporte, and literally threw his hands up BEFORE Kane played the ball!

Ut was a counterattacking masterclass on how to not only beat the high press, but play the channels between the defenders.

Sadly, we rarely get that chance because our build up is so slow and methodical, and there are no channels in a collapsed 5-4-1!!!

He's not in the side because laporte and Dias haven't done anything to deserve to be dropped. Not good today but they've been largely excellent and part of the best defence in the league. When Pep rotates at the back for the sake of it everybody says he needs a settled back 4. When he goes with a settled stable defence, it's stones has to get games.

laporte was on the end of it last season for the same reason, Stones just needs to stay fit and available and when the time comes perform and make himself undroppable. I think stones knows and accepts this better than any anybody else in the squad, certainly better than most fans.

I expect he will get the nod at Everton and have a chance to do just that. I think he would have come in anyway against his former side but especially after that game. Personally think it should be at the expense of Dias, laporte has been better this season and we know Pep favours having a right and left footer.
