He's not so bad in midfield either.Just looks so at home in his surroundings, up there with Vinny now as a defensive legend

Best English player currently by a mile.
Turning 29 soon, his game has never been about pace... if he can stay mostly fit we've got at least 5 more seasons out of John. By the time those are up he could genuinely be recognised as the best English defender of all time. He's phenomenal.
I have nothing against Laporte, but for me, the only good argument to start him over Stones is that Pep likes a left-footed centre-back. Laporte's world class, Stones and Dias are probably the two best in the world at the moment.
Also, not sure how relevant this is, but if City were to win the Champions League 1-0 (and I have thought hard about this) I would want Stones to score the winner more than anyone else.
But you just know southgate wont be watching and thinking whether he could be deployed in a similar manner. He’ll be CB alongside slabhead, covering his fat arse, and jackie G on the benchBest English player currently by a mile.
Jack has been great, no disputing that, but I am not sure there is a player in world football right now that can effectively play in so many positions/roles as John has this season, much less an english one.Jack Grealish says “Hi”.
I reckon @Eccles Blue's other username is now known to everyone on here.Jack has been great, no disputing that, but I am not sure there is a player in world football right now that can effectively play in so many positions/roles as John has this season, much less an english one.
At some points against Madrid he was playing centre forward and winger!
That’s Stones playing at a very high level as a CB, RB, RWB, DM, CM, RW, CF.
Pure brilliance and perhaps the archetypal Pep player. Reckon, if Pep could, he’d play ten John Stones across all outfield positions.
Nah, he puts it so much better than I could. :-) I just agree with every word.I reckon @Eccles Blue's other username is now known to everyone on here.

*falls off chair laughing* I respect your opinion @OB1 but totally disagree! He is maybe not many miles better than Jack and Phil but he’s definitely better than them….at this moment. They may eventually catch him but it will be a while yet. :-) :-)Stones is brilliant. He may be the best English player right now but just not miles better than Jack or Phil Foden...
I'm not sure that we are in total disagreement but it's a nice "problem" to have.*falls off chair laughing* I respect your opinion @OB1 but totally disagree!
