5 | John Stones - 2024/25

We as a fan base don’t seem to do a very good job with players at the end or beginning of their careers. We’re usually far too hard on them at the start. And as they age half of us are far to easy on them AND the other half are far to hard on them. it’s like we only appreciate a player when they’re at the absolute peak of their career.

It’s extraordinary how some people are going on like he is in the twilight of his career or something. He has 4 yrs at least. He played every single match for England in EUROs just months ago. It not his fault bald man has a weird way of managing players.

Pep has lost many a player he would like to keep because of it. Alvarez, Mahrez just the recent ones.

John will put up with it because he knows he just has to be ready and he loves the club.

Thats why some of this chat is annoying. He loves the club and he puts up with it like many other players won’t.

And I love Akanji - but there is no way he is a better footballer than John. Even at this very moment when his form is not top.

Akanji has been the clubs best defender in the last 12 months by a long distance, he has been simply outstanding.

The management of absolutely top players is clearly one of Pep's strengths.
John Stones is one of the best players we have had - an absolutely top-drawer player.
Other players have to play because John's fitness cannot be depended upon.
If not, we bring in players who cannot meet what we need as soon as John is injured.
If a player comes in and does a great job, it is right that the player who has dropped out has to earn their place back; John is one of those who has to do that.
He has to be ready.
So do the others.

"the player who has dropped out has to earn their place back"

Hence why we have won the title 4 years on the bounce and why Pep is one of the great man managers.
