5 | John Stones - 2024/25

I hope the club can get him fit to play by March, those international games wont play themselves.

Wowee talk about kicking a man while he’s down.
John Stones has given more than 100 percent on the pitch and I’m betting that he has appeared when he wasn’t fully fit thus making himself worse eventually but I’ve not heard him complain anywhere. He just got on with his job as best he could.
Give the guy some slack/credit. Let the club decide what to do not the fans. He has earned that concession from us surely?

I don’t think I’m letting my admiration for John Stones overshadow anything else but you can shout me down if you wish. :-) :-)

JMHO.
No problem but how long are you going to give him to get fit and keep fit?

We have too many players that can no longer play 3 games a week, Walker, Ake, Stones, KDB, Bernardo and Gundo.

We simply can't have that amount, we need players to be available.

John Stones has been magnificent but at this time he is living on his past form.

I’ll give him as long as he needs. Plus another 3 months. ;-) :-)

Contracted through summer 2026, like so many others.

The peculiar thing about Stones is that he played 3,400 minutes in his last season at Everton and played over 3,000 in his first season with us, but thereafter he's never once managed more than 3,000 minutes. By way of comparison, Akanji has 3,814 (22-23), 3,864 (23-24), and already 1,293 (24-25). Akanji is only 10 months younger. Tough decisions lie ahead for the club.

Of course if he’s not picked he can’t rack up any minutes. If he’s not substituted onto the pitch he can’t rack up any minutes so I’m not really sure that those stats tell us much. :-)

Staunch as ever. :-)

I have no axe to grind, but the events of this season are going to bring into sharp focus the contract situations of de Bruyne (June '25) Stones (June '26), Ake (June '27), and Grealish (Jun, '27). Their lack of dependability stretches a thin squad further and adds to the burden of others, meaning they also run a higher risk of injury. Their situations will be an interesting challenge for Viana.

Wonder if there’s a slight possibility of Stones retiring after the 26 World Cup…
