Is he bollocks, guy is on a huge wage and only ever gets fit when there is an international break, his contribution over the last 12 months doesn't warrant any new deal, replace him with someone who isn't made of glass.
Didn't get injured during the last international break because he wasn't selected. Can't blame England for that! Still a couple of valuble last minute goals vs Arsenal and Wolves.

Was it the international brake before the last one where he’d just came back from injury pans played 90min in the first game and started the 2nd game and got injured after the first 5min. He’s not really played that much for us since

It was the second one he missed. And he wasn't selected. He has earned his chance in staying. We are not making too many changes at once.

He has been fit but benched especially last season. THAT doesn’t help his fitness.

Were Stones not as injury-prone as he is, I would be all for giving him a new deal. With the way things are, however...

We'd be 5 points worse off this season without him hopefully getting the rest and recovery he needs.
Flip side. We wouldn't be in the shit because we have a reliable CB pairing and wouldn't be conceding stupid goals.

Am I correct in thinking his contract is up in 2026, and Ake, Dias and Akanji are 2027?

Not heard anything about their deals being discussed.

His time at us seems sadly at its end

He's always struggled with injuries but now he's into his 30s his end is sped up

Yes footballers these days can stay at their peak for longer than they used to but injury prone players aren't so lucky, Stones won't get LESS injury prone and will only get worse

He's on upwards of £200k a week, it's time to move on both John and Ake and get new blood in, guys we can rely on even if they aren't as "good" as Stones is (or was?)

Injuries have always been an issue. He's only averaged about 32 games a season for us compared to someone like Dias who is averaging over 40. Stones should have played way more for us overall than he has, and we should be looking forward to someone who is 30 years old and entering their prime as a CB, but instead we're fearful the injuries will get worse and we'll barely see him.

Van Dijk is 33 and still performing at the top level. Plenty of CB's are doing the same. Stones' positioning, ability on the ball and reading of the game mean that he's got the ability to keep playing for a while yet. But his body's unlikely to let that happen.

I like both players very much but one of him or Nathan needs to go. Sentiment apart, it’s too much of a luxury paying big salaries to two injury prone defenders.

Both need to go. Both past 30 and have never been too healthy even in their youth. They can't be counted on at this level.

Get Antonio Silva and a Leftback to replace both

So have to assume injury again - as I can't see he's been hooked for performance reasons today

He's not played for a month so could just be easing him back. But if he has got PF I'd be more worried that they're seeing if he can play without a flare up and it's not working
