5 live no longer doing classified results service

No. It's just the BBC clinging onto It's (long past) reputation as Britain's premier sports broadcaster.

Jobs for the boys company. Serves no purpose in the modern world other than to extort the public.

I thought I was a bit of a luddite but reading some of the comments on this thread, I wonder how some people manage to get through the day.

I’m an old **** but no Luddite and I still enjoy Match of the Day. As do millions of others. I doubt the BBC would hesitate to ditch it if enough people weren’t watching.

It’s the perfect format for me and has stood the test of time. I want to see a bit more than just the goals from the other games. But no way am interested in sitting through Sky’s extended highlights of games I already know the result of.

So an hour to 90 minutes is just right to get through all the games. I’m surprised it’s the one show that as far as I know, the other channels have never really tried to duplicate.

We used to have a 400 mile round trip to home games (now only 160). We never listened to talk shows, just music all the way there and back.

The PL scores are read out over the tannoy after the match. That's all I need to know.
You don’t need it so no one else should have the choice?

I know a blind bloke who is missing it.

ITV failed dismally when they had the highlight rights for a few years.

As for the classified results, this probably divides drivers and non-drivers. They were required listening for me when I drove to games but that stopped 15 years ago and I doubt that I've listened to them more than a handful of times since.

Not if you are at the game because there is no internet. Then you rush to the car (AFTER) the game finishes and make it for 5pm to your car. Then you are driving back (4 hours in my case). Hearing the scores in one go is great and what other option have I got? I can't check my phone as I am driving.

Exactly fella. On the nowadays rare Saturday 3 kickoffs I usually get back to my car in time to hear it but I do get me skates on as I want to get away before the traffic becomes a nightmare. I don’t rush just for the classifieds but it’s still part of the match day. I don’t put radio 5 on at 5pm on a Saturday if we aren’t playing mind, I suppose it’s just what I’ve always done when going to games - I like to listen to the sport and post match analysis whilst driving - unless we’ve lost ;)

Agree with this. The standard of punditry is poor though. I don’t really feel I learn much I can’t see for myself, if that makes sense?

There comes a point where some traditions will always give way for progress. And in this day and age, classified results have been rendered redundant.
