5 live no longer doing classified results service

Its a radio tradition tossed away because 5live editorial has gone from buisness to bantz.

Maybe becuase i grew up listening to it on way home from matches i would like it to stay.
Bang on. Far too much fucking pissing around. Everyone thinks they're a fucking comedian.

Playing devil's advocate here, I've seen a lot of comments on different teams forums that in this day an age it's outdated and people have instant access to check on their phones.

If that is the case why do we still need MOTD?

Now I haven't watched it in several years, but my lad watches all the PL goals via YouTube on the way back from our game. Do we need to wait 6 hours to see the same content as MOTD show, when all game highlights can be seen 30 mins after the final whistle, with no ex-player bias to summarise?

It was very dated, that dirge of a tune during which they gave spoilers on most of the results to make it pointless reading them again, but having said that - it just needed updating.
I loved that tune probably a little melancholy but it has been a constant. Fucking internet I remember listening to the half time scores in the stadium, that simultaneous ripple & spontaneous humour when the rags were losing - it did happen now and again.
It’s just a rush now to have a smoke in one of the traps or be absolutely pig ignorantly rude to a student serving a pint to slowly or a pie to hot

I think it's a very sad and important loss. I know some will say I'm reading too much into it and being sentimental but I was brought up on it and the radio FA cup draws.
Listening to the football results is something ghat unitex us football fans no matter how well or badly your team is doing. It's a sort of antidote to all the nasty shit that happens on social media including on here sometimes.
I know quite a few people who support different teams especially below ghe PL and its nice to think they'll be happy or briefly commiserate if their team has lost.
Plus some of us are genuinely interested in the football pyramid (and of course City have been down to the 3rd level), following latest stories especially with "bigger" teams fallen on hard times.
Spot on. Another part of football tradition gone. If City aren't playing and I'm at home I always listen to Sports Report as I'm interested in how the rest of football is going on. I was pissed off last Saturday to find out that all we got was a quick summary of the lower leagues about who had won, lost or drawn, with no actual scores provided. Although it's quicker checking the phone it doesn't feel right without the 'Classifieds' on a Saturday tea time.
It seems to me that it's all to make sure they fit in their interviews with PL Managers.
Pretty much sums up the way the media works nowadays - it's all about the PL and fook everyone else.

I used to love the way he read the first team’s score out in a way that you could tell if it was going to a home win, away, or draw before he even got to the away team. I also liked the way he would never, ever use an abbreviation for a team. Always full and correct.

That said, I haven’t listened to it in about 40 years so can’t really pretend I give a shit that it’s gone.

First World problems

Anyone genuinely interested would have found out the scores of matches they wanted to know well before 5pm.

Typical BBC fuss over nothing.
Well you could say anything to do with football is a first world problem.
We're talking within the football bubble and it's nothing to do about finding out particular scores. It's about a lot of football fans sharing exactly the same experience together. If you don't get that, you probably don't get the community (away from social media etc) or collective experience football brings

Quite right. Id love to know how people “listen to the scores at 5, on the way home from the match”, given they never finish before ten to five.

Mind you, I suppose half the family stand could manage it……….
